The Broadness of Negativity.
This is all purely my opinion coming from the perspective of a traditional folk witch.
I see so many posts in the witch community on banishing negativity. Such as house cleanings to banish, charms to keep bad influences away, and such. There is nothing inherently wrong with wanting to keep the peace in your life, but the absolute bastardization of negativity is a little ridiculous.
Life is certainly not black and white, and when you break life up into these sections as a means of avoidance, it’s more than anything, holding you back from growing in your life, and your craft. The term negativity from my understanding, in observance within the witch community, is anything that can hinder, ruin, break, and cause annoyance to someone. And while using your craft to intervene with things that can cripple you in your day to day life, it is impossible to completely block ‘negativity’ from your life. I have seen many posts where people underestimate the importance of difficulty in life, that it is necessary to experience these things.
Negativity is a broad spectrum on how it affects the person and when doing spells or rituals to banish negativity from your life you risk losing things that can end up benefiting you, and example being someone belittling you, nagging you, or being rude, sometimes you experience people like that in life to grow your confidence and control over your emotions, and more. It’s better to focus more on a direct source that can be identified and dealt with properly. Properly dealing with issues is always up to the practitioner, but if you are completely ignoring a very normal experience in life you are doing yourself a great disservice.
Life cannot be lived without inherently dealing with negative experiences, coming from my path, it is so crooked as to purposely trip you up, it is meant to confuse you, bring you somewhere you did not expect to be, breaking you, building you, and preparing you to go further. Negativity cannot be boiled down to one direct source that can be banished from life, I can foresee that someone may comment that this is not how they or their community see negativity, but I will say now that this post is not for you. Don’t deny yourself from experiences to grow, splitting your world view into black and white denies diversity in experience. Negativity is not inherently negative in every aspect and it is broad and uncontained.
