TEMPLE ANNOUNCEMENT: Eight New Temples Announced; Plans To Renovate Salt Lake Temple and Surrounding Grounds Coming Soon
During his concluding remarks at the Sunday Afternoon Session of the April 2019 General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to build eight new temples in the following locations:
Pago Pago American Samoa 🇦🇸
Okinawa Japan 🇯🇵
Neiafu Tonga 🇹🇴
Tooele Valley Utah 🇺🇸
Moses Lake Washington 🇺🇸
San Pedro Sula Honduras 🇭🇳
Antofagasta Chile 🇨🇱
Budapest Hungary 🇭🇺
The Budapest Hungary Temple will be the first temple in the nation of Hungary, and the Pago Pago American Samoa Temple will be the first temple in the US territory of American Samoa.
Today’s temple announcement brings the total number of temples either operating, under construction or renovation, or announced to 209.
Following up on his announcement from the October 2018 General Conference regarding renovation of pioneer-era temples, President Nelson also announced today that plans have been drawn to renovate the Salt Lake Temple, Temple Square, and the plaza at the Church Ofice Building. These plans will be shared with the public on Friday, 19 April 2019. The Manti Utah and Logan Utah Temples will also be renovated in the coming years.
