Yeah. I think my frustration with him as a character is influenced by my experiences which makes it less likely for me to be as sympathetic. Also a lot of my young fandom interactions with people convinced snape never did anything wrong. I firmly believe he's in the grey area but it can be hard to have conversations with people about characters that aren't distinctly 'good' or 'evil'.

We only got a little bit of that from Lyra because she was focused on other things and i have always been curious.

Absolutely. Lyra herself stereotypes service workers based on their daemons within the first few pages. That sort of pattern-seeking behaviour is inevitable among human beings.
