💚Cursed Princess Club thoughts💚

This drawing is made by my friend @vranelartbg. Some of you in the fandom may recognize it, since they had posted it here in the past back when their Tumblr was called elrikadraskanitsi. But they have deleted that Tumblr and all of its content. Still, they let me use their past fanart in this review, so big thanks to them! 🥰

Hello, my lovelies! I have finally decided to take this blog seriously and write you my thoughts about my most favorite Webtoon - Cursed Princess Club. 💚 So today, we are going to be doing just that!

Quick notes before we begin: First, I won't be explaining the plot in detail, since I assume that if you have clicked on this post you know abot the comic and you have read it. Second, BIG SPOILERS! If you haven't read it, please do! It is an amazing story and it is definitely worth your time! 💖💖💖 Third, those are just MY thoughts and MY experience with the comic. They may differ from yours and that is totally ok! We are all different people and that is the beauty of it. And finally - I am in not way a professional when it comes to comic criticism or writing reviewer content, so don't expect this to sound or look professionally done. I am just a gal, who loves comics and likes to yap about them. 😊

Also - VERY IMPORTANT! I would love to hear YOUR thoughts, so let's make it a discussion. I know that the Webtoon is over, but I feel like it will be fun to revisit it after all that time. 😁

Alright! Here we go!

I absolutely adore the theming of this story! The central theme is accepting ourselves and finding our own beauty in a world that is full of set expectations and stereotypes. That theme has been in many stories, but I love the way it is potrait in this particular Webtoon! I would also never get tired of those stories, because no matter what, the world is still a very cruel and stereotyped place, where people keep putting expectations and restrictions on others and think that they can controll every part of their lives. So we need to have those stories to remind us, that we must never stop fighting for our place in the world and our right to live how we feel is the right way! 💖

The main character - Gwendolyn (who is the sweetest cinnamon roll, OMG! I adore her!💚) is the perfect representation of this.

In the begining of the story, she has lived an isolated life in her castle with her two convetionally beautiful sisters, an even more beautiful brother and her father. They all love her very much and so she never knew that she was considered "unatractive" by the general public. (I actually love that aspect of the story! The family love between Gwen's family is adorable and I wish it on everyone!) That, of course, changes when she is engaged to Frederick and overhears him talking about how he finds her ugly. This shatters her world and her self image!

And OMG! Can I just say - the visual representation of the broken reflection everytime Gwen wanted to look at herself. AHHH! My heart! 😥😥😥 That was such a clever way of the artist to show how Gwen sees herself.

Of course the second most incredible representation of this theme of selflove and aceptence is the Cursed Princess Club - a club that is ment for cursed princesses (and princes) that have been outcasted by society.

That club has given us so many incredible characters, all with their own spin on the outcast architype. They are all so fun and cute! 💖💖💖

I also love how it wasn't only the "cursed" characters that fell into this theme. The characters, who were considered "beautiful" and "perfect", also went through character arcs that showed their flaws and how the expectations of society and the people around them broke them and forced them into a role as well. Showing that even the people, who we perceive as the role model for everything society stands for, are not the perfect individuals we have thought they are. That everyone has their own problems, their own demons, their own flaws. That is best showen in Prince Blaine.

I love how his character was handled. How he became the anti-thesis of Frederick in the end. And I love that his story ended in vagueness. I also love the fact that he became a mirror of Whitney at the end! Getting on his own journey of self discovery!

Speaking of, I ADORED the backstory of Prez and Whitney, OMG! Those two are incredible! I admit, I ship them. I know that Prez is AroAce coded (I least I think she is.), but I still find them cute together. 💙🤍

I also loved the character of Aurelia! I love how she started antagonistic towards Gwen, but became one of the most important and lovely one. It was because of her that we got to see the backstory of Gwen's mom and she even fought in the final battle. 🧡

Speaking of Gwen's mom....AAAAAH! I adore her! I love the fact that Gwen didn't turn out to be cursed, but that was instead the beauty her mom passed down to her! I ADORE the theme of Lilyth's arc. The theme of a person from a more tribal, isolated area falling in love with a person from otside and leaving with them, only to get opressed and outcasted for their native looks and to face the harshness of the life outside of their native land? AHHHHH! I love it! It's such an underrated type of story and I. WANT. MORE of it! 💚

I mean look at her!!! How can anyone call her ugly, my God! 😥

I LOVED the ending! I loved the fact that it was so action paced! I loved the fact that we didn't get a last minute redemtion of the princes and I am so happy that we didn't get rushed and forced weddings! I LOVED how it ended with everyone's problems kinda resolved, but also new problems on the horrizon. It was the perfect ending to such an incredible story! And it also enphasised a very important theme - that no matter if a chapter of your life is done, there is so much ahead. Usually fairytales end with a "happily ever after", but in real life that is rarely the case. So I am immensely happy that the story didn't end in such a way. 💖💖💖

And speaking of - one of the MOST AMAZING things about this story was the deconstruction of the fairytale genre. In every corner of this story you have a set up for a usual stereotypical fairytale thing and BAM! Plot twist! The exact opposite. Or something new. The biggest example as I pointed out is the ending. The story didn't end with a glamorous wedding of the characters. It didn't end with all of the problems resolved.

Another incredible aspect of the story is the humor! My God! The humor was peak! There are so many moments that got me on the floor and combined with the amazing artwork, they send me rolling! 😄

And one thing I love is that until the very end, the story never lost its humor. I have seen many stories that start lighthearted and funny and lose their humor halfway through, when the author decides to make the story more serious. This, thankfully, didn't happen here and I am so glad! Because I adore the humor of this comic! 💖💖💖

Overall, I adore this comic. It is such a fun, incredibly written series that has a lot of important messages handled in an incredible way. I highly recommend it to everyone! 🥰🥰🥰
