#MoldovanMusicMonday
Here in the US, the only opportunity we get to dance the Hora is at a Jewish wedding. From what I’m learning, the Hora is also a traditional dance in Moldova, Romania, and many other countries in the region. It shows up in popular music as well like the 2009 Eurovision submission from Moldova, Hora Din Moldova by Nelly Ciobanu.
My favorite Moldovan band Zdob si Zdub also mentions the hora in many of their songs such as this one:
I’ve got a feeling that Peace Corps pre-service training is going to include some lessons on dancing the Hora. Considering how long it took me to learn my one line dance, the Wobble, I’ll take all the training I can get. (ask Rebecca how bad I still am at the cha cha portion of the Wobble).
