what are your thoughts on the humble snipe eel?
NO THOUGHTS!!! ONLY EEL!!!
Snipe Eels (family Nemichthyidae, order Anguilliformes)
9 species, in 3 genera.
Found in every ocean, at depths of 300–4000 m (980–13,000 ft).
Maximum adult lengths of 77-130 cm, depending on species.
Feed on various shrimp and other shrimp-like crustaceans.
Not in the "true eel" family, but in the same order as true eels.
Species are visually very similar, and it is usually not possible to ID them to species or often genera using a photo.

This snipe eel in the genus Avocettina was seen during water column exploration at the end of a Gulf of Mexico 2017 expedition dive.
