An outdoor lighting collection designed for the Italian lighting brand Flos. With a combination of a thin frame and an illuminated sphere, the collection offers two configurations of objects; either as side tables or as floor lamps leaned against a wall. There are two types of tables; square and rectangular. Both types consist of two frames, one used for lighting and the other used to secure the tabletop in place. A shared leg connects the two together and serves as a concentric hinge that allows the user to adjust the angle between the frames. The same leg also conceals the electricity cords that connects between the light fixture and the battery hidden within the tabletop surface, enabling mobility and outdoor use. An intentional bending of the metal structure is designed to make the frame appear to softly sink under the “weight” of the illuminated sphere. This detail is also incorporated in the floor lamps that are made of thin frames slightly bending and sinking against the wall and around the spheres of light. The corner lamp type can be used in two directions and can be placed either vertically or horizontally. The soft shape of the frames, grants the objects a sense of character and creates a unique visual, as if capturing the weight of light itself.

Side tables with a section of the cuboid frame cut out. Fitting a sheet glass into the grooves cut in the wooden frame not only gives the tabletop a rarefied presence, but also grants sufficient strength to fulfill its purpose as a side table. The collection features four pieces: two side tables with corners cut out, and a console table and coffee table with two cutouts along the side.

Japanese design firm Nendo merged the concept behind Russia's traditional matryoshka dolls with an ordinary bookshelf so that book lovers will always have room for their growing personal library. This creation, known as the Nest Shelf, is designed with practicality in mind, with the added bonus of seeming quite magical.

At first glance, Nest may seem quite common because it looks like your average three-shelf piece of furniture, but it quickly transforms when you pull at its sides. This simple adjustment allows the multifunctional unit to expand so that it can provide additional shelving space. The designers used carbon fiber to help support this work of wonder, allowing the shelves to hold an impressive number of novels and knickknacks.

Designed by Nendo, the Fadeout Chair is as much an artistic trick as it is a practical piece of home furniture. After all, while the initial experience is quite impressive the trick quickly becomes old hat – but their strategies and tactics persist in other works.
