Tell me some canon lore about the vampires in your world. Are their forms dictated by specifics? Are they unique to each individual?
I’m supposing this question if about Halfmoon, because the only other vampires I have are chimeric space vampires, and if you want the answer for that... I guess you’ll just have to resubmit your question. So to start off, human emotions have tangible effects on the fabric of the world. Specifically, intense grudges can become irreversible curses. So vampires end up kind of dead, but not really alive, which separates them from ghosts, who are entirely dead and have no bodies.
But anything dead doesn’t like to follow real world rules, so vampires bodies can become other things, like mist, animals, and all kinds of weirdness. And that goes across for all vampires once they start forgetting human things like not transforming into a swarm of bats.
There is a con to being dead though, in that the dead are not really supposed to effect the affairs of the living. So if a human 100% believes that vampires can’t enter a house without permission, then the vampire is actually forced to go along with this logic. (and by 100%, I mean 100% this person has no doubts)
Anyway, off topic. When vampires get really really old, they start having less of a grasp on reality, and the majority of the time their personal traumas start to have a physical manifestation. Aka, they get a really weird monster form that is entirely unique to them, and it’s usually really big, weird, and murdery.Their form may incorporate motifs that were familiar to the individual during their lifetime, but a lot of it is pretty much incomprehensible.
Exhibit A- Big bird monster with skull face and too many legs
Exhibit B- A terrible chimera with too many legs.
