Neon is your Clarity
Becoming used to betrayal was a mindset, being used to the slander and eyes that stared down at such a lowly being was a lifestyle. Being a young child born with powers made you seem special and yet you were disregarded as trash, regarded as a monster that the world would one day realize is a hero.
The way she spoke calmly to you, Sage was someone that was admired for beauty and grace. Her hand reaching out to comfort you, your first death and your first revival were groundbreaking to many. Yet you felt at ease, like your body was complete. Brim and Sova were watching as you slowly rose, your eyes scanning between everyone. You seemed too calm, too calm for someone who had just been headshot easily by the enemy Chamber.
“Mission complete, let’s get ‘Y/N’ back to base for a checkup, Sova and Omen help Sage” Brim commanded, his eyes stayed on you before you could feel someone linking you onto their back, Omen watching as Sova helped you begin walking.
You couldn’t sense anything, their words shifting in one ear and quickly out the other as she glanced around. Your body felt numb, as if you were just a mere puppet. The flight back to HQ was as quiet as a graveyard, no one dare spoke as they were waiting to see how you would react. Your soft eyes only stayed tracked on your hands, the way you folded them together before removing them as you tried to make sense of it all. You had seen what death was like, an empty void to you. Fear of death was not common in your family, your mother and father both died young. Your uncle selling you for money, your friends dying young due to events that no one would explain to you. The cold ground where you slept many nights came to mind, you could remember how close you were to death many times. You were friends with death basically, you
could tell when one had died, when one has seen death. Yet you, yourself have never accepted death, maybe that is why it’s so hard to configure what you feel.
“‘Y/N’, I need you to respond to me please. I cannot help you unless I know you can understand what I am saying” Sage was once again in front of you, your eyes found yourself in the medical bay and not on the helicopter. You wondered when you had arrived.
“I feel. Numb” The words quickly escaped your lips as you stared at the healer, in the back you could see Yoru standing still, his eyes traced on your figure. Jett and Phoenix seemed to be standing on the other side, the way they mumbled to themselves before Phoenix stepped forward carefully. They were your friends, in your eyes however, they were colors with mouths. You couldn’t picture anyone. You couldn’t imagine anyone.
“Numb how? Your body or mind”
“Both, I feel nothing for the talking boxes of color”, Your answer was a gasp as Sage quickly stood. Her hands reaching out to touch your skull. She knew many suffered blurriness, yet you seemed too calm still. She dismissed the agents quickly, her footsteps trialed after them as she called for Neon. You recognized that name well, it was attached to your girlfriend. The bright and sparky girl who won your heart when she accidentally zapped you. The voice called out as she stepped in worried, seeing you on the medical table was new and Neon knew she did not enjoy it.
“Hold their hand for a while. I believe they are not able to focus because too much is clouding them. Neon, please bind them back to Earth and help them to their room later. Brim will be informed of their condition. I must accompany the next mission. Skye will be on base and is already informed as well.” Sage spoke softly but just as quickly. Neon only humming as she
made her way to you. Her hand locking yours as she leaned into her shoulder. You could see the soft freckles that littered her cheeks, the soft blue and yellow hair that trickled your cheeks. You could feel the ring she wore, the one you brought that reminded you of her. Her steady breathing as she ran her other hand through your hair. You finally could see as sobs riddled your body, her warmth embracing you as she was your clarity to the world. Neon quickly let out soft hums and words to calm you down, her hands quickly locking on your back to rub circles down them. She knew you were strong; you knew you were strong. Yet for now, the comfort and clarity she brought was all you needed to finally see the world once again.
“Let’s go to bed, that sounds like a way better idea than sitting awkwardly in this medical bed.” Her soft voice being replaced by her regular joking and peppy voice. A smile found itself on your lips as she was quick to wipe away your tears, her eyes staring straight into yours. The way you could see the soft oak forest that lay still in her warm brown eyes always made you feel at home. Her hand leading yours to help you stand, your footsteps echoed hers as you found yourself trialing after her. The way she kept you close, the other agents acknowledging now was not the best time to disturbed. Phoenix and Jett watched you carefully as Yoru smiled at Neon, a rare one but he was thankful she could save you. Many knew that you and the trio were described as reckless friends, but Neon knew you all were siblings in each other’s minds. The sound of a door opening followed with it closing as you both stepped into your room. A large waterbed sat in the middle, bean bags cluttered up one corner as your work desk was covered in files and documents. Your body soon embraced the waterbed as Neon could be seen plugging your phone and laptop in. Her hands yanking off her shoes as she grabbed a blanket from your closet. Your eyes softened as she mumbled words of annoyance about how cold it was and how she needed your warmth. Her body seem finding itself next to yours as she pulled you in.
“I love you.” Your words echoed loudly in her head, the way she hugged you tighter, a soft chuckle leaving her lips as she mumbled the words back. Her steady breathing matched yours, allowing yourself to finally close your tired eyes, you found yourself once again complete and safe. For now you could trust everything would truly be okay.
