It's the last texts Davy shakily sends to Phillip, barely pressing the right keys with how darkness bites at the edges of his vision. He can't correctly type one out of three words ( i love you ), but manages to send the link of a playlist he's been working on for Phillip. Love ballads, mostly 80s, some early 2000's, bit of late 90's ( of course, he needs to include W.estli.fe ), each one thoughtfully chosen. ". . . I was going to burn the songs on a CD for you." Davy's voice runs hoarse from exhaustion, but his smile's warm and fond as ever. Silently, Davy takes in the sight of him. "Phil ─" Davy's chest seizes with overwhelming guilt. "I'm sorry. Fuck, I swear, I never wanted to put you through this." He moves closer, so he can rest his forehead against Phillip's temple. Just take a moment to breathe, and bask in his presence.
Before Davy can go on with his apology, Phillip hits him square in the chest with that confession. It knocks the wind out of Davy more than tonight's earlier violence, something that almost devolves into a life-or-death situation. Eyes wide, Davy leans back a little to stare at Phillip. He should do the right thing, kindly decline, and let Phillip walk away. But for once, Davy decides to be selfish ─ he reaches out to cradle the side of Phillip's face, draws nearer, and kisses him. A kiss that promises, I'll never scare you like this again, and whispers, You're all I wanted to see. There's a hint of a smile at the end, then a breathless laugh once the kiss breaks. "I love you too." Tears bring out the vibrant blue-greens of his eyes, a light that's adoring and bright. "And I'm still gonna burn you that CD, darling."

phillip wasn't expecting this — the moment davy leans in, cradling his face with a tenderness that sends sparks racing down his spine, phil’s breath hitches. his heart is still pounding from the adrenaline, now beats with an entirely different rhythm, faster, warmer. the kiss steals all thought, grounding yet unravelling him all at once. his fingers are still trembling from the shock, curling into the fabric of davy’s shirt as if anchoring himself to the moment afraid that if he let go, he might shatter this fragile reality. when the other pulls back, phil can only stare, searching davy’s. the words i love you too echo in his mind, over and over, like a melody he’s longed to hear but never dared hope for. a breathless laugh slips past his lips as he shakes his head slightly, disbelieving, overwhelmed, but oh so, so grateful.
"you’re ridiculous," phil murmurs, his voice shaky but he lets out a soft chuckle. his hands are still gripping davy’s shirt, smoothing out the fabric absent-mindedly. "making a playlist like that and not just telling me sooner. westlife, really?" his voice wavers slightly as he speaks, his own tears spilling over now, warm trails streaking his cheeks. "god, davy." he lets out a shaky exhale, his forehead dropping against davy’s as he closes his eyes. for a moment, the world quiets and it’s just them. no fear, no chaos, no more hiding. "you’re going to drive me mad," he whispers, his words catching on a choked laugh. pulling back just enough to meet davy’s gaze again, phil brings a hand up to brush a tear off davy’s cheek with his thumb, being so careful. "but, baby," he says softly, his lips quirking into the faintest of smiles, "if you’re burning that cd, you’d better put robbie williams on it too. i refuse to let you out-ballad me."
