Update on Neostylis Lou Sneary. It had three spikes but I was keeping it too dry so two of them kinda shriveled up. The most advanced one I got really mad at and ripped the spike off and felt that most of the buds had blasted but there were still some viable ones at the tip, which made me feel bad for ripping it off. But that led me to repotting it and keeping it more moist, which let it bloom from one of the spikes. Pretty good display. Flowers lasted like three weeks? Smelled fantastic. It's currently doing basically nothing.

Lou Sneary buds getting plump!

There are actually three active spikes growing! Two of them are smaller and slower growing than this one you can see though. The media is starting to mold a little which is gross...

Lou Sneary is pushing out two new spikes! I feel like I'm giving it too much light? Like the new leaves are quite purple. These spikes don't grow super quick it seems. It's looked pretty similar for a few weeks now. There's an out of focus view of the newest root it made. Can't wait to smell it again!

Neostylis Lou Sneary ‘Blue Bird’

New orchid from Waldor Orchids at JL Orchids from my boyfriend’s dad. My first vandaceous type orchid. Pretty sizable orchid. Has bloomed at least two times in the past. Cute little flowers. And they smell beautiful. Kinda hyacinth-y, very floral. Has two little buds but it looks like the terminal bud on that spike is blasted. There’s styrofoam at the bottom and that’s a little odd. Mostly coarse bark/coconut chips so it seems like im gonna have to water pretty often. Roots are super thick and firm. The tops of the top-most roots are like cracked. V excited about this little guy. Jack said he’s shaped like Arnold from Hey Arnold. Okay then.

Vandachostylis Lou Sneary 'Blue Bird' (formerly neostylis)

It's a shame that the flowers of this Rhynchostylis hybrid only last a few weeks. The blooms are starting to fade on this plant (one of my very favorites), but I managed to get a few more decent snaps before they started to drop. I'll miss having my apartment smell like jasmine tea--until next time!
