SHE PRIDED HERSELF ON BEING a great gift-giver, so when Abigail’s birthday was coming up, she knew EXACTLY where she would find the PERFECT gift for the woman who LOVED reading everything Discworld, yet was also interested in the scientific side of things. She had made sure that Abigail didn’t already own the book she was looking for, having made William her little helper in searching the bookshelves in their house. When she got the confirmation that The Science of Discworld III: Darwin’s Watch was nowhere to be found, she immediately set out to buy a copy.
Unfortunately, the one copy this bookstore stocked was so far out of reach that she didn’t even think she would be able to reach it if she jumped for it. She was so focused on trying to get to it though, that she hadn’t heard someone coming closer and she DID jump when a sudden voice was at her shoulder. “Oh, I’m sorry!” She chuckled. “I didn’t see you coming, you scared me.” She followed his glance up at the book she was trying to get to and stepped aside, to give him space to reach. “Thanks, life’s not easy when you’ve skipped your growth spurt.” She accepted the book and quickly scanned the text on the backside, watching him reach for a different one from the corner of her eyes. “Pleasure, gift, or academics?” She asked, turning her attention back to the young man who had helped her.
