Mass Effect on Ice

The first day I walked onto the shop floor wearing my N7 hoodie, my boss had a little moment with it. It was a busy day, busting our collective asses on the new ice show coming up for the summer. He just stood there, staring at my arm, and reached out and ran his fingers down the stripe so lightly. Like he simply could not stop himself from touching it. He said, “Ooooh, Raina. That stripe is so great…

He had that look on his face. His idea face, kind of dumbstruck but so focused you know he’s not really looking at the real world anymore. Where you can practically see him drawing costume sketches or drafting patterns in his head.

I know that face. I see it enough from him. I can also recognize it from feeling it on my own face.

Bossman is…not a geek. He is forever reminding me how many miles apart his and my brains are in terms of our other interests. He is not a gamer, nor has any interest in it at all unless he’s asked to build something for our pop culture satire show, and even then he just drops it on my desk like its a snake and leaves me to deal with it. So he has no idea what Mass Effect is, or what that stripe means. But wow, was He taken with it.

So now I am just waiting now for that stripe to show up in the next ice or dance show he designs. And I will internally squee with geek delight, and imagine Wrex on ice skates.
