★ What are some of your favorite sci-fi books? Share some recs for 2023! Sci-fi is my favorite book genre that I don’t read enough of. Actually it’s my favorite movie/television genre, too. Especially space operas. Omg. Give me all the space operas. 😭 And sci-fi horror. I want to feel terrified in the terror of space. I listened to Project Hail Mary last year with my husband and we really enjoyed the audio and story overall. Andy Weir has a way of making science fiction really SCIENCE without it feeling overwhelming or too far out of reach. Arkham Knight Harley Quinn Cosplay

This is probably the funnest cosplay I’ve done and definitely one of my favorites.  It originally started as a Halloween costume since I was playing the Batman Arkham Knight video game at the time, but it ended up turning into a cosplay that I modified over time that I still wear today! It first started with an Arkham Knight Harley Quinn costume I ordered online.  It ended up needing A LOT of modifications to look like Harley’s actual outfit in the game. The buckle over the chest wasn’t even attached to the choker so I sewed those two things together. 

After that was finished, I got to work on the tights since the ones that came with the costume weren’t very realistic.  I already had a pair of maroon-colored tights I never wore, so I bought some fabric dye and dyed the other half of them navy to match the costume.  I then took apart a studded pyramid belt and carefully pinned the studs onto each knee of the stocking.  It surprisingly worked and all of the studs stayed in the stockings really well, so I could slip them on and off with ease.  

Next, I decided to turn this old black baseball bat I had into her white/red striped bat.  I painted the entire thing white and glued on leather strips I had pained pink and then glued on metal round beads to the strips to act as the studs on the bat.  I then painted the tips red and pre-outlined the stripes on the body of the bat with pencil and painted in the stripes with red acrylic paint.  She has a few different bats as weapons, but I liked this design the most.  

I bleached my hair and getting it into the ponytails was definitely the hardest part of the cosplay! I bought some spray dye for the red and black hair tips......and here’s the end result!

Cosplay Story

Throwback to when I cosplayed as Tifa Lockhart at Ohayocon a few years ago. My friends and I were supposed to go get food after having slept all day and I was starving! We had to stop at another friend’s hotel room first because the rest of my friends had cosplayed as “tide pods” back when that was a thing and they wanted to take a tide pod group photo. I was the only one not cosplaying as a tide pod since I really wanted to be Tifa. I had to wait FOREVER for them to get it together and take photos and I was dying of hunger. Finally my friend taking the photos threw some oatmeal cream pies at me so I ate one while waiting for them to finish up. I looked hilarious standing there in cosplay and fighting gloves eating one and took a selfie. Some guy walked in and loved my cosplay and took pictures of me posing and it was pretty cool. I miss cosplaying so much and can’t wait to do it again!
