Oh shit I accidentally hit ask before I could finish my question. WHAT WOULD BUCKY (and the rest of the avengers) DO ABOUT THE AREA 51 RAID WOULD HE JOIN THE NARUTO RUNNERS AND KYLES?

OMG, I was on vacation in the middle of nowhere this week and not paying attention to news, and had no idea what this was until I googled it in total confusion. 😂 THIS WAS WILD. 

So I think all the Avengers would take it in stride. Probably watch the news, join a few debates on Twitter, make some jokes about the whole thing. Clearly they  know aliens are real, and some of them have been to space, so for them? It’s another day at the office. In fact, Steve and Rhodey have high enough military security clearance, they’ve already been down to Area 51, and they’ve seen some...interesting...things.

Except. 

Except.

Bucky.

Bucky, who has never been to space. Who spent his last night before WW2 deployment at a fucking science convention. Who tries (and gets caught) sneaking into Shuri’s lab in Wakanda to fiddle with all her spacey gadgets. Who dressed up as Hans Solo for Halloween and who hardcore fangirled that time he met the Eleventh Doctor at one of Tony’s galas. 

Bucky rocks up into the common room, wearing a green tank top proclaiming "I BELIEVE BITCHES”. He’s carrying a cooler full of Capri Sun fruit juice pouches and bologna sandwiches, he has a tin foil hat perched on his head and he’s chewing a huge piece of bubblegum. He grins at everyone and blows a huge bubble.

“Get dressed losers, you’re flying me to New Mexico.”

it’s canon that mcu!Bucky loves advanced technology. 

So in my fanfic I have him working at an auto repair shop (before he goes to Wakanda). Once he gets good at it, he starts remembering how cars used to be in the 30s and 40s a little, and even some vehicles he drove as the Winter Soldier. And then he compares them to the cars of today with built-in stereos, handheld device ports, ENTIRE COMPUTERS WITH TOUCH SCREENS built into the dash, voice controls and GPS, just wow--but first off WAIT A SECOND WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STICK SHIFT?

and then later he goes to Wakanda and finds out their vehicles are even cooler

(also him taking a moment to remember the weapons Hydra gave the Winter Soldier, and realizing that some of them were pretty cool, objectively speaking, hey SHIELD buddies do you have some of that?)

Bucky Barnes is someone who enjoys learning and figuring out how things work, that is all
