The reactions to Nikki Bella surpassing AJ Lee's record as Divas titleholder are fascinating. First, you have people actually caring about a wrestling title, and the least prestigious WWE title at that. That's great! That's the goal of this form of storytelling! AJ fans griping, Nikki fans celebrating, all are being wrestling fans the right way. Who would've thought? But then you have other wrestling fans who are enraged that people care about this at all. These "smart" fans have no patience with the WWE women's roster, and are mad that the streak is taking up oxygen that should rightfully be devoted to worshipful consideration of Cesaro's "moveset" or "workrate." These "smart" fans are pissing on AJ's career (what kind of moveset did she even have??!?), making gross assertions about Nikki's real-life relationship with John Cena, and even resorting to the familiar "you know it's fake, right?" cliche. Again: "smart" fans are upset that people are invested in professional wrestling. This might be an affliction unique to wrestling. Either way, shut up, you horrendous nerds.
