More Treasure in Books // Dindrane, Guinevere and Nestradren
“No, no, no, no!” Dindrane waded through the water to snatch up another scroll before it got soaked, securing it firmly under her arm. She already had two books and three scrolls, and it was doubtful she could carry any more. But how could she stop? All the knowledge, all the stories and poetry and music ... they couldn’t just lose them! It was unthinkable. Heedless of the fact that the skirt of dress was soaked up to her calves already or the wind that was rattling the window shutters, she struggled across the room and stowed her treasures on as high a shelf as she could reach.
Where was all this water coming from? Even as awful as the storm outside sounded, she couldn’t believe that the library could flood so much. It was all she could do to told back her tears to prevent any more water damage. It was no good, she couldn’t do this alone. She needed help. Splashing across the room she flung open the door and grabbed the first person she saw running through the corridors. Not even bothering to look to see who it was, she started dragging them into the library. “You have to help me!” she said desperately, “We have to save the books!!”
