Longevity

How many years had he lived through at this point, he wondered. How many upgrades? How many backups made in order to preserve his memory? Of course, Keisuke knew the answer, which took less than a megabyte of information. He was lucky his memories in general took up such little space overall. Something he could actually thank Keitarou for.
Keisuke breathed in the ocean air as the wind carried it to him. No matter how much time passed him, the cyborg would always find himself where water met land. Sure, his body was built for those waters, but it was more innate than a bunch of mechanical parts. He had always loved the water and what mysteries it held since his youth.
And the sound of the waves and the scent of sea salt, without fail, eased his heart when he found himself dwelling on those he lost. He tightened his fists and leaned closer against the railing, eyes intent on the ocean before him. He would preserve their memories. He would make sure to help make the world into one they would like.
Ryouko. Tachibana. Kiriko. He hoped he was making them proud.
Another breath and he tried loosening his body. He heard footsteps approaching a long while ago and they were only now within appropriate distance. He straightened his back and let his hands grip the railing instead.
“A beautiful day, isn’t it?” he asked, without really turning his head to look at the stranger.
