How to Point A Sub-domain to Your Tumblr
(More specifically: how to point a sub-domain you registered in Netfirms to your tumblr blog. But this should also work for Go Daddy, or whatever domain registrar you are using as well.)
So, let's cut it short, because this is really easy at all. Say you've got a domain called whatever.com, and you want to point blog.whatever.com to your Tumblr blog. How?
You can simply do it by modifying your domain's DNS record. However, you must do it from your domain registrar's control panel. So below we'll take Netfirms' control panel as an example:
Login to your Netfirms account (of course).
Open "DomainCentral".
Click on your domain, then choose the "DNS" tab. (For users of other registrars: just find a way to navigate to the place to modify your DNS record, or somewhere with "DNS" labeling on top of it and looks like the place.)
In the drop-down menu which asks you what to modify, choose "A Record".
Insert a new A Record; specify "Host" as blog (from the sub-domain you are gonna use: blog.whatever.com) and points it to 72.32.231.8. Punch it.
You know you've successfully pointed blog.whatever.com to your Tumblr blog when you see something like this:
Please remember that it can take up to 72 hours for the change to take effect. You can use Tumblr's official Custom Domain Test tool to help you determine if the change is kicking off.
Finally, you can apply your newly activated sub-domain name to your Tumblr blog by going into your blog's settings:
