Netflix Recommendation: About time
Hey everyone I just wanted to write a quick blog, hopefully not too long, about a movie that I watched on Netflix that pleasantly surprised on every level: “About time.”
As the government is advising (and ordering|) us all, to spend more time indoors and to “Socially distance,” many of us are passing away many minutes and hours, flicking through our Netflix subscription with forlorn despair, as nothing is inspiring our attention. I would strongly advise spending some of your dead time with this movie.
“About time,” is the story of a man who discovers that he has the ability to time travel and decides to use this ability to find love and romance in his life. The first half an hour to forty five minutes of this movie is an, almost cliche, look at what a young man would do with these powers; going back in time to correct a few faux pas, that he made talking to the object of his affection. Going back in time to find out a little more about her so that he can impress her on the date.
This movie is not a sci-fi movie and spends, next to no, time melting our heads with butterfly effects or grandfather paradox’. Instead this movie explores its cliche premise well, in its first forty minutes, before realising that it has alot more to say that I simply don’t want to ruin for you.
Watch this movie with your significant other and talk about the themes that this movie explores. This movie is much better in its last hour and a half than it has any right to be. It is a light hearted, without being slapstick, comedy; which allows for the intelligence of the viewer, in a way, in which, is missing in so many movies today, especially comedies. Mostly it enriched my life, and my philosophy, in a way in which I was not expecting it to do. This is a movie that deserves to be seen, and discussed, by as many people as possible and I hope you do decide to watch it.
Have you seen “About time?” What did you think of it? Please follow my blog and let me know if there is anything that you would recommend on Netflix that pleasantly surprised you. Have you seen a movie that was better than it had any right to be!
