I drew my gf’s character nettine heheh ^_^
hey that’s my fucking girlfriend
Been wanting to cosplay some of @petitepasserine‘s ocs but I couldn’t make a decision forever on who I might do first! All of the designs are so dreamy, but I decided to start with Nettine. Though I do wish I’d gotten a couple more good shots ;n;
A very sparkly Nettie with a few anemone flowers, Character belongs to @petitepasserine.
Marie
Marie, Marie… I can’t think of anyone I’ve known named Marie. No one real, at least - it’s the birth name of my first VtM character, though she never goes by that name because she’s a Tremere and there’s magic shit you can do with someone’s true name, if you know it. So the main tag for her is Nettine, as that’s the name she used during our campaign.
I’m trying to think of if I can answer this properly without just waxing poetic for pages and pages about how attached I am to the character, because she’s probably the nearest and dearest to my heart out of the characters I’ve made so far. I feel very protective of her. I think the best I can do in terms of talking about a “personal experience” with her is posting some of the background I talked to my ST about while the game was ongoing. I dug this up from a conversation way back in April - the search function in Facebook’s chat feature is a godsend.
Normally I’d feel a bit guilty about just how self-indulgent this is, but… hey, you asked! I’m assuming that means you already know abut the character and want me to ramble about her. If not… eh, too bad. All the background you really need is that she was a psychic and a medium even before her Embrace, which is largely why she was chosen for it.
Katrina: She was born in 1700s France. She would have grown up steeped in Catholicism.Oh my god, poor girl. Imagine, like, 10-year-old Marie Garenne going to confession and fearfully whispering to the priest that sometimes she thinks she can hear the voices of the dead.Brock: Now that’s Gothic.Katrina: Can you imagine the response though? The first time it’d be “The devil is tempting you. Say twenty Hail Marys and ignore his words." Then by the time she’s 13, her gift is way more developed. She recognizes them, sometimes. People she knew. They tell her things that no one but them could have known.Brock: The second time, up the dose. The third time he’d be contacting the bishop.Katrina: YEP.The pox took her friend and she heard her voice, three weeks later, telling her that she’d sewn love letters into her blue petticoat. She goes to the family’s house to help them clean out her things. She finds the petticoat. Feels the stiffness of paper between the layers of fabric. She takes them out, goes home, cries all day before reading half of one, then burns them all like her friend asked her to.A year or so later, her mother dies in childbirth. She starts work as a housemaid [for the Tremere who later became her sire]. There weren’t ghosts in the house before, but after a few years, there are so many.Brock: A massive network of them.Katrina: She lives in the house, of course, and the closest church is a different one. Sometimes she thinks the Father gives her strange looks. Too measured. Too cautious. But she never speaks of the spirits to him in confession. She tells him everything else. But not about the spirits. She meets her old priest in the market one day. He seems almost afraid of her. He thinks she doesn’t see, but he crosses himself as he walks away from her in the marketplace. No wonder she’s so fuckin scared all the time. She thinks that when she dies, she’s going to hell.NETTINE WHO SECRETLY STILL HAS A CROSS THAT SHE KEEPS IN THE BOTTOM OF A DRAWER…oh my GODNettine who was almost relieved when she became a vampire because she would never again have to worry about committing the sin of lust.Brock: oh man, she needs a hug BAD.Katrina: SHE REALLY FUCKING DOES.SHE TRIES SO HARD TO BE A GOOD PERSONshe doesn’t even think that salvation is an option for her but she tRIES SO HARD ANYWAYbecause she WANTS TO BE GOODoh my god I’m having emotions please kill meBrock: <3 [if you weren’t already aware, Brock is a goddamn sadist.]
Katrina: whY DID I DO THIS TO MYSELFBrock: It’s fun!Katrina: apparently I’m a huge goddamn masochistThe Sabbat isn’t just her worst nightmare because of the danger they pose, then. It’s not even just because they hurt and kill so many other people. They’re the personification of what happens if you let the Beast control you.Her worst fear of all, probably, is becoming like them.
This is how basically all our conversations about Marie went. I would go down these long, elaborate roads talking about Tragic Backstory and end up making myself sad while Brock laughed at me. Ah well, it’s as good a foundation for friendship as any.
I wanted to draw @passerineart‘s Nettine because she does look like a cute fluffy fluff. In general...all ocs look just really good hngg
Tomorrow is the last session of my VtM tabletop and it is going to be SO delightfully awful. My poor baby Tremere is going to be trapped in an hour-long carriage ride with half a Sabbat pack, a Tzimisce who attacked her in zulo form the previous night, and the Ventrue that her clan kidnapped and beat halfway into torpor the night before that.
I mean, her Malkavian friend is gonna be there too, but his sire is one of the hot Sabbat women so he’s not going to be of ANY help.
And that’s BEFORE we try to take out a centuries-old mage intent on summoning a way overpowered demon. We’re supposed to be working TOGETHER against this guy.
I’m so dead.
songs I listen to to get into the mood for Nettine
Funeral Bell - Phildel
Mon amie la rose - Françoise Hardy
Bitten - Patrick Wolf
Lose Your Soul - Dead Man’s Bones
The Parting Glass - Lauren Cohan & Emily Kinney
O Death - Jen Titus
Rabbit Heart - Florence and the Machine
The Curse - Agnes Obel
the playlist I have for her is much longer than this, but these are the ones that help the most when I need to get into character.
