When Yachiru learned about Gonta's birthday it was already a bit too late--but that wasn't going to stop her from making something up for him! Since he was so enthusiastic about insects she wanted to show him a Hell Butterfly. While she couldn't manage to find the messenger she'd try her best to look for something that was close enough to it. And that came in the form of a solid white moth she had cupped in her little hands that were now gesturing up towards Gonta. 1/2
“I couldn’t get you anything for your birthday! But I wanted to show you something Go Go-chan!” She opened her little hands to show him a little white moth. “I couldn’t find one here, but do you know what a jigokucho is? They’re black butterflies with dark pink around the bottom wings!” She happily explained, looking up and down as she explained. He’d taught her something about butterflies so now was the best time to return the favor. “They’re used to send important messages!”
Of course he doesn’t mind that Yachiru didn’t get him anything, but the moth she shows him is more than enough to make up for it. New knowledge about insects is a gift in itself to him, even if it makes him question his talent a little.
“No, Gonta’s never heard of a jigokucho,” he responds, bending down a bit to get a better look – even if this isn’t what she’s talking about, he’ll appreciate the sight of any bug. He tries to imagine the real thing in his head, however, picturing it as… a Papilio troilus, maybe? But with pink where the blue or white parts usually are. “They sound lovely, though! And extra talented and trustworthy if they’re used for something like that.”
The messenger part sounds like what Luffy taught him about “transponder” snails, doesn’t it? How lucky he feels to have new friends teaching him so many neat things! “And this little friend you’ve found is cute, too! Thank you so much for telling Gonta about this, Kusajishi-san!”
