Another day, another Black man shot by police in a situation where such force was not even remotely required. The police arrived to a call of a man wearing a red shirt, stole CDs from a convenience store and had a visible firearm. Sterling was wearing a red shirt and was witnessed selling CDs, but a gun was not visible. Two police officers, seconds after yelling, "get on the ground", "aggressively" (as the shop-owner described), shoved him so hard he "bounced" off the nearby car and fell to the ground landing on his back; he was immediately pinned down by the two officers, seemingly unable to move much more than his head. Moments later one of the killers was heard yelling, "he's got a gun" and less than a second later both officers shot him multiple times at point-blank range. On recorded videos Sterling can then be seen rolling on the pavement with blood covering his chest. He did not survive. So far, while according to standard procedure the two murderers have been put on probation, the opinion of the law-enforcement agency is that no excessive force was used, and the actions of the officers was completely warranted. This makes the second post about a Black man who was slaughtered by police that I have made in less than 24 hours. These are not sensationalized random incidents; these men were victims of a decades-long trend in which Black men (especially youth) are shot first and asked questions later. Statistically, Black youth are 21 times more likely to be shot and killed by police than white teenagers; and the number of murdered white men that would be required to even out the imbalance is a staggering 185; that is more than one per week. Do not be silent and complacent; let those who work within the criminal "justice" system know that we will not let this unacceptable slaughter of Black persyns go unnoticed; and that there will be civil unrest until these murderers are held accountable! #blacklivesmatter #altonsterling #neverforgettheirnames #civildisobedience #protests #justice #racism #criminaljustice #policebrutality #murderinthefirst #socialjustice #feminism #intersectionalfeminism #humanrights
