Well, here it is!! @artinadplaces Ad takeover 52/52: comes from @heatherbenjamin_ . Flip through to see some recent AIAP ad takeovers from other participating artists. We have a few more surprises coming your way (namely an exhibition and a zine TBA). In the meantime, I just want to say thank you to everyone who participated and supported this project. Especially the talented @lunapark, who came out every single week of the last year to photograph our installs and share her wisdom. This started as a day dream after @vandalog and I finally stopped laughing over a ridiculous, massive butt lift billboard next to our apartment. We were like “Okay, but seriously, we all share public space. Why do we have to look at this stupid butt every day?” There’s no real way to reject the messages you see in public space (esp sexist, violent, environmentally destructive ones). Except through civil disobedience. We decided a curated guerrilla anti-ad campaign was an appropriate dissenting reaction. Also, it’s more fun without permission ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ A few emails later (thanks to RJ), we had a dream team of artists and thinkers on board to share their magic and help us create a glimpse of a reality where public space is not visually dominated solely by corporations and product pushing. It’s been a blast culture jamming with y’all. This has been one of the most fun and fulfilling projects. Looking forward to celebrating a year of @artinadplaces with a proper party/exhibition soon!
