Because her character on The Closer was a lot different from how they eventually ended up portraying her on MC. She also used to have so many quirks on The Closer which didn't really made it to MC.

@neverlendbooks I agree that she was a different character, but I wonder what quirks you’re referring to. Would you mind elaborating?

my favorite female character: Grace Hansen

my favorite male character: Eh, Bud I guess? Though lbr season four didn’t do any of the kids any favors.

my favorite book/season/etc: Three. 

my favorite episode (if its a tv show): I loved the season two finale and the gun episode in season three. 

my favorite cast member: Jane and Lily are both incredible on and off camera.

my favorite ship: Grace/Frankie is the only one I’m really here for.

a character I’d die defending: I don’t know that I’d necessarily die defending any of them, but of all of them, Grace, probably. 

a character I just can’t sympathize with: Robert, for the most part. Though honestly, again, season four made the kids pretty hard to sympathize with.

a character I grew to love: Grace was an evolution for me but she became my favorite. I thought it would be Frankie, but Grace is just more interesting to me.

my anti otp: I don’t really have one, I don’t think? I’m super bored with the Robert/Sol storyline at this point though. Like, don’t break them up, but don’t give them that kind of screentime either.

Female characters aside, truth be told, I don’t even think they write good *male* characters. The show’s writing is so horribly uninspired in general up until they hit you over the head with the emotion of the week you’re supposed to feel.

I will 100% agree with you on this, but since there are roughly 18M male characters on television at any given moment, I’m not given to care as much about them. Disrespecting my female characters is another story....

Before I knew who she was I had seen her in ID4, DDW, ER, Sneakers and Replacing Dad (which I zapped into by accident on a channel that aired lots of cheesy movies and I was hellbent to switch channels immediately, but then her character really drew me in). Such a lightbulb moment when I connected the dots!

There really is something about her. It was funning realizing all the things I’d already seen her in without knowing once I finally became fully aware of her. :D

That's too funny. A lot of people, me included, had watched some of Mary's movies before we could connect them to her and instantly were drawn to her respective characters (which we only realized in retrospective). I didn't even notice it was the same actress. She had a way of almost transforming physically for each character.

That’s very true. There’s just something about her. I also know I’d seen her in at least Donnie Darko and ER before I ever really knew who she was.

Why I joined the fandom: I have always loved zombie flicks, but the show is a far cry from all the zombie movies I’ve seen–the survival of humanity at the end of civilization has always piqued my interest (similar themes to Battlestar Galactica, though not exactly the same).
