                    carol  is  conversational  in  spanish.  due  to  tommy’s  own  fluency  (  as  talked  about  with  @fuckingvictus‘  tommy   )  ,  carol  has  picked  up  the  language  (  not  all  ,  but  she  can  get  by  very  well  )  because  of  how  frequent  she  &  tommy  speak  in  it.  carol  &  tommy  often  have  private  conversations  in  spanish  whenever  they  don’t  want  other  people  to  know  what  they’re  speaking  about.  thus  ,  they’re  usually  whispering  to  each  other  in  spanish  while  gossiping  about  other  students  even  when  the  said  students  know  they’re  talking  about  them.  a  lot  of  their  fights  happen  in  spanish  whenever  they  don’t  want  people  to  know  why  exactly  they’re  arguing.  she  wants  to  become  a  better  spanish  speaker  which  is  why  she’s  in  spanish  classes  at  hawkins  high  ,  &  it’s  one  of  the  only  classes  she  takes  seriously.  steve  also  knows  some  spanish  ,  but  not  as  much  as  carol  or  tommy  do.  actually  ,  carol’s  wedding  vows  to  tommy  when  they  get  married  are  in  spanish.

folding her arms over her chest, robin grins before reaching forward to slide the contents of the now opened envelope across the table to steve. her expression is smug but it’s masking the most intense barrage of maternal proudness she’s ever felt in her entire life.

the tech acceptance letter glares up at steve and he blinks.

“—you’re a college boy now.”

“i- i’m a college boy– er- man–” steve lets out a surprised chuckle before his face quickly lights up, the gravity of the situation finally sinking in. “i got in!” taking to his feet before robin has a chance to say anymore, he whisks her off her chair, arms enveloping the other in a desperately appreciative hug.

“okay– okay- hey watch it- i’m not a mop, quit trying to wring me out–” she laughs, before steve lets go, mouth still agape in something resembling a half smile.

“and it was all thanks to your killer writing,” she teases before continuing, “–but you had an insanely awesome teacher,” she shrugs, the sentiment punctuated with a wink.

          a scoff parts       chapped lips as rose’s gaze swivels to take in her behemoth of a baby brother  .  “  excuse me  ,  i am the boss of you  !  ”  eyes narrow into a mock glare  ,  easily distinguishable from the one she uses when having to play mom  ,  or a referee between the boys  .  “  it’s not my fault that you and dean were part of some freaky experiment that made you grow way taller than you should have  ,  i’m a perfectly normal height  ,  you dork  .  ”  rose scrunches up her nose before turning back to the wall of their motel room  ,  newspaper clippings and notes haphazardly pinned to it  .  even though she may protest his teasing  ,  rose revels in having sam back within arm’s reach  .  she was positively thrilled that he’d escaped their familial obligation  ,  but life would never be right with him gone  .  “  now hang those notes up so we can figure this out and get out of this town  ,  it’s giving me the wiggins  .  ”

‘ and you are ever the enigma, enola holmes, ’ the viscount replies, hiding an amused ( almost tickled ) grin beneath a wry smirk.

however he managed to cross paths with the youngest holmes is beyond him, but his life has become infinitely better ( and safer ) as a result, and there’s nowhere else he’d rather be at this very moment. reaching out to gently brush a curl out of enola’s eyes, the marquess keeps his composure for a few more achingly tender moments, before all hope is lost, and a hand jerks toward his face to stifle a sudden outburst of laughter.

‘ i am not stupid ! i’m a highly educated young man, thank you, ’ he says, feigning offense.

she holds her breath as dorcas speaks, chest tight with worry and unease - feet seemingly glued to the ground where they stand. somehow, she had managed to catch the other witch alone, without the constant looming presence of prudence and agatha, but the thought does nothing to dissuade sabrina’s nerves.

dorcas’s tone is already indicative of an unwillingness to help, a fact that sabrina finds unsuprising, but disappointing nonetheless; and after a few more moments of awkward silence, and rapid self reflection, she speaks up, mustering up her most stern, commanding tone.

‘ dorcas, i’d really appreciate it if you’d leave nick alone. ’ come on, sabrina. say it with some conviction, dammit. ‘ — he’s really struggling right now and you’re not making things any better. ’

it’s the first moment they’ve been able to spend alone together since the house vote, and the viscount isn’t keen on waisting any second of it. there’s a small garden right near the edge of the tewksbury property, and he quickly guides enola in that direction, the grin on his face large enough to rival a cheshire cat’s.

after a few minutes of brisk, determined pacing, they arrive.

his own little patch of heaven — it’s modest. small. but it’s all his.

there’s an assortment of flowers in neat little lines, produce sprouting up in adjacent rows, and even patches of various breeds of wild grasses and shrubbery. it’s shockingly well organized for a garden, but the sheer volume of plant life has turned the once meager patch of dirt into it’s tiny ecosystem.

the viscount opens his mouth to speak finally, but lips clamp shut just as quickly, as he urges enola to do the same. with his free hand, the one not currently tangled with his companion’s, he gestures to a small ball of fluff hidden amongst the produce and nibbling on a ripe tomato.

‘ enola - look ! ’ he whispers excitedly.
