was waiting at the gate for him to return from a mission. she was worried and anxious this time -- beyond what she is normally -- and felt the need to. when she sees him, she pushes back her immense relief and moves towards him, pressing a kiss to his forehead.

FEELS AS THOUGH IT’S BEEN AN ETERNITY SINCE HE LAST HELD HER IN HIS ARMS. releases a loud sigh as the gate is in sight, arms hang heavily at his sides. as a matter of fact, his whole body feels heavy. another mission, successful. his comrades walk by his side, but they don’t have what he has. VENA CAVA, heart personified. tenten, no one had a love like theirs. he’s surprised to see her standing there, a small smile gracing his features as they step toward eachother. she moves his headband, plants a kiss on his forehead. always dearly misses her when he’s away. always wonders what she’d been occupying herself with, how her days had been going. what had she eaten ?? was she happy ??

pulls her in for a hug. he’s silent. but even his silence showed the love he had for her. wishes he could do more, but he’s again, exhausted. hadn’t gotten the opportunity to get proper rest while he was away. rubs his thumb over her cheek, moves his hand to her chin and raises her face. her eyes were full of worry, and all he wants to do is calm her. remind her that he is safe, and capable of handling himself. leans in and presses their lips together. it might not have been a long mission. but he’s missed her scent, her touch, her forehead kisses on his curse mark. she’s the calm after his storm. and he could really use some calm. their lips linger on eachother for a few seconds, before he moves back and intertwines their fingers together. ❛ let’s go home. ❜

temari was never the one receive gentle treatment after a training session. usually it were her, moving to help out her little brothers and wrap their cuts and scrapes in bandage. but when it was with tenten, she was never allowed to do so, for tenten always beat her to it. it’s a good feeling, to be cared for in such a way. to be treated so gently, by someone who wasn’t intimidated by her. it’s possibly temaris favorite thing about the other. tenten did not fear her, she was not intimidated by her. instead, she rose a kunai to temaris face and called her RIVAL. something admirable.

the kiss is unexpected, it makes her scrape feel warm, makes her feel warm inside. and only tenten was capable of making this feeling surface inside of her. tenten, her greatest rival, her bestest friend, and the one she desires the most ?? it didn’t make sense. best friends shouldn’t think of eachother like that. temari shouldn’t be thinking about the sweat dripping from tentens muscle after a hard work out. she shouldn’t be thinking about the way she bats her eye lashes or when she crinkles her nose when she laughs. she shouldn’t stare at her longingly when tenten is asleep beside her in her pajamas. shouldn’t think about the curves of her lips or the curves on her hips.

but she does. and oh god she can feel it, the need to confess feelings buried deep inside of her. but that’s just what they were. buried in a sand tomb she called a heart. cannot let tenten get too close. she remembers: EVERYONE YOU LOVE AROUND YOU, GETS HURT. kankuro, poisoned. gaara, killed. daimaru, dead. rasa, dead. karura, dead. yashamaru, dead. she moves away from tenten, a small frown on her face, arms crossed. she can’t confess. she can’t keep tenten too close either. ❛ what was THAT for ?? ❜

IT’S A CHALLENGE. and if the other girl knew ANYTHING about her, she’d know Temari wasn’t one to deny such a thing. which is probably why Tenten had proceeded to do it. to dare her. ❛ come on, Ten. ya know i’ll do it. ❜ her hands are on her hips, chin up, shoulders straight. she radiates the desert sun and confidence, her pose, tall. at least, taller than the other girl. Temari’s always had something for Tenten, and it grew much past their self proclaimed rivalry. it was changing form. from Temari’s eagerness to butt heads with the girl, to the sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach whenever they had crossed paths.

with a step, she’s right in front of the other, tilts her head down. when teal eyes meet brown, Temari knew, she couldn’t turn back. it was her chance, to release some of the pent up feelings she had cast aside for the other. a single hand lifts, battle scarred and slightly calloused. she uses her hand to raise Tentens chin a bit. she wants Tenten to look INTO HER EYES. wants it to be something she’ll remember. and that’s when she makes her move, a bare movement of her head and their lips touch. Temari, feeling a tingle down her spine as a hand reaches to find the other girls’. there’s something about kissing your childhood crush for the first time. ❛ told ya you shouldn’t dare me. ❜
