Patton Oswalt takes Karen Kilgariff to The New Beverly
Dean Jones film Handle with Care screens at the Capri Theater at 7165 Beverly Blvd, the film house now known as the New Beverly Cinema
2010: The Year We Make Contact, the sequel so much better than it has any right to be, screens at LA’s @newbeverly on June 30 & July 1.
Rainer Werner Fassbinder's prescient sci-fi masterwork (his only sci-fi film) "World on a Wire" looks at virtual reality through Sirkian reflected surfaces (among other things), creating one of the most ingenious depictions of simulated existence ever made. Extra note: Peter Green, whose instrumental "Albatross" is used to stunning effect here, dosed out with one of the film's actors during an infamous Munich trip, reportedly the acid that spiraled him into madness. Actor Clu Gulager is pushing 90 years of age, and still has the thickest head of white hair, slicked back with a cowlick in classic 1950s juvenile delinquent fashion. He can usually be found sleeping in the very front row at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles.

Flash Gordon, 1980, directed by Mike Hodges. Screening at @newbeverly in Los Angeles on Saturday April 22.
