My new gig
A few weeks ago i got an email from Glen Dudasik, the publisher at a relatively new hyper-local media company (website and radio) called The Lansing Herald.
On the Herald’s website, which, by the way, is free, Dudasik offers this mission statement: “We at the Lansing Herald believe that all people have the right to a fair, equal, and independent media. We will present factual, honest information that will allow you to formulate your own opinion.”
Who could argue wiith that ...?
Anyway, Dudasik, who was familiar with the daily column I wrote for the Lansing State Journal, asked me if I’d be willing to write a regular column for his website.
My first reaction: Why in the world would I want to interrupt my largely unscheduled life for more deadlines ...?
My second reaction: Why not?
Glen and I exchanged emails and, eventually, a phone call, which led to a face-to-face meeting. He said he was trying to expand the reach of his enterprise, which emphasizes high school sports. He told me what he had in mind from me - 400-plus words, twice a month, on any subject I chose (music to a writer’s ears). Glen wanted the kind of columns I wrote on Sundays.
The upshot is that my first column appears on the Herald website at https://lansingherald.com/around-town.
For the time being, I’m scheduled to be there on the first and 15th of each month.
