Stereotypical Texas
Ok so I just moved to Texas like a month ago, and I thought that maybe just maybe, the stereotypical Texas stuff was just the other states making fun of Texas. I have never been more wrong. I’ve already had to deal with a bus driver who wore a cowboy hat, boots, and said “y’all”. And then Texas merchandising on everything in like HEB. But this has gone too far.
To preface, my school PA system got struck by lightning so it didn’t do the announcements until Friday. So the bell rang and the overhead PA system was like “Please stand for the pledge.” And I mean yeah, it’s the pledge, whoopty-doo. So everyone stands up and says the pledge like normal. I was ready to sit down after that, but then I hear “Now please staying standing for the Texas Pledge.”
The Texas pledge?! Is Texas literally so full of themselves that we have to pledge to them?! Because I just moved and there’s no way that I’m pledging to a state I know I won’t live in for longer than two years. I’d rather pledge to a cucumber. I audibly said, “What the heck?!” and I mean everyone looked at me like I was idiot, and did their pledge.
Is this just like a Texas thing?! I’ve never been in a state where we have to pledge to a state, that’s overkill. I’ve never been so confused in my life, I felt so foreign. End me now before I start saying the pledge and muttering “y’all”.
