New Spider Alert!!!

I got a new spider today.  He seems to be an Avicularia versicolor adult male.  I have named him Tafkap, or Taffy for short.  The purple color reminded me of Prince so I named him the initialization of The Artist Formally Known As Prince.  Let me tell you all the full story of how I got to have him because it’s an adventure.

A few days ago my friends girlfriend texted me and said “Hey! Are you interested in a pink salmon birdeater/red knee tarantula?”  

Of course I said yes!  After some more questions, the spiders were about the size of an adult Rose Hair and came with free tanks!  I told her I wanted to wait until after my move and that was fine.  

So today, she says she’s free and could bring me the spider.

“Spider?”  I said, “I thought there were 2?”

“Well the bird eater died and I want to keep it for a display mount, but the skeleton leg is fine”

She brings in the spider and it’s honestly so sad.

This was when I realized it wasn’t either a red knee or skeleton leg but a very sad looking male Avicularia.  I texted a few of my tarantula friends and they all confirmed the genus and they all said versicolor.  He also came in this Exo Terra cube, great tank but it’s covered with poop, the substrate is a mix of vermiculite and coco fiber and there’s one piece of bark in there and there is a water dish with marbles ( assuming so the spider doesn’t drown).  Whoever had this before me, the friends girlfriend’s coworker, didn’t know how to keep spiders at all.  So I took this depressing tank and got the supplies to redo it.

TA-DA!  Here is his new home, since I took this picture I added another taller piece of cork bark to the habitat and JUST LOOK AT HIS COLORS <3<3<3<3
