the initial shock of reunion was enough for most people not to notice the wrongness of it all; the clear difference in those who have been returned to them. but the burning questions seem to have no answer, for the dead have aged and everything has changed. they can remember all of it and yet none at all.

a new era began with old wounds, and nothing is the same.

A brief summary of Misery's history:

1684 - A ship and its crew washes up on shore after a storm and Misery is officially established.

1716 - Misery is met with a plague.

1829 - A deadly storm traps some of the town inhabitants in the church.

1996 - A bonfire in the woods spreads until half the town is burning.

2014 - Many young girls are killed at the hands of the serial killer Bloody John.

2021 - A new serial killer terrorises the town in the form of The Phantom.

2024 - The emergence of the beast, a hairy, wolf-like creature who comes out at night to hunt wildlife in the woods or to wreak havoc on the store fronts in town.

2026, June 29th - At midnight, the sound of the church bell tolling three times echo across town, seemingly marking some kind of beginning. Or perhaps some kind of end.
