First time adventuring out of my comfort zone and trying to do a landscape. Also, I invested in a paint palette, which is super handy.

Sketch-a-Day Prompt 22: "Fern Gully"
This was one of my -favourite- movies as a kid, so I had to try to paint the cover art for this prompt (sans fairies haha)
Sketch-a-Day Prompt 21: "Budding"
I definitely struggled with the shading on this and getting the lilac buds to look sufficiently rounded. In the end, I am relatively pleased with how it all turned out, though it doesn't totally match the reference
(other than the black border, which I don't like at all. I was trying to make it clearer on the scanned version where the edges of the paper are, but it looks pretty janky lol)

Sketch-a-Day Prompt 20: "Camouflage"
This was fun! I free-handed all the little critters from online references and then filled in the spaces
There are a total of 12 creatures (or 11.5, as one is going off the edge haha)

Online references: [squirrel] [chipmunk] [vole] [owl] [raccoon] [hummingbird] [skunk] [deer] [turtle] [rabbit] [fox] [no ref needed for the snake ;)]
Sketch-a-Day Prompts: 18 "Lichen" and 19 "Blade of grass"
For the lichen on the rock, I struggled to get the lichen not to just look like blobby moss. Adding frills with pen helped to a degree but it wasn't ideal. Online reference photo from Jessica's Nature Blog (natureinfocus.blog)
For the second one, I tried to keep this a simple and quick sketch, painting some new grass in my yard
Sketch-a-Day Prompt 17: "Photosynthesis"
I'm a bit nervous about sharing this one, as it feels a bit like a peek into my diary. My husband and I always joke that I am solar-powered -- and so I immediately thought of myself soaking up sunshine with this prompt. I wanted to make this piece quick and light and joyful so, even though people are intimidating to draw, I tried to keep the sketch short and the painting loose. I find it hard to not get caught up in details and trying to perfect things, so this was both freeing and intimidating 😅
The shadows are far too dark, but I am still so pleased with this little painting. It feel like it captures my joy in the sun 🥰☀️

Sketch-a-Day Prompts 14-16
Day 14: "Overgrown"
I am actually SO pleased with how this came out! I think I was able to bring out the feeling I was looking for, which is really neat.
This painting was an attempt to (mostly) recreate another piece of art: a CGI blender image by Rafael Braz (br4z) of an overgrown car: [link]
Day 15: "Emerald"
This was my first sketch that I didn't start on the prompt day. I'm pretty darn proud that I managed to get halfway into the challenge with painting at least a little each day! I ended up painting it the following day before starting prompt 16, so I kept it nice and easy. The lines are done in Micron, using the "Zen doodle" technique by Lizi Phoenix
Day 16: "Minty fresh"
I was inspired by Trailbound Sketches' recent live where Max was having SO much fun making ferns haha
I also learned a bit about the way that watercolour can dye the paper, leaving behind a 'ghost' of itself even if you lift the majority of the pigment off the page afterwards. That shows up here as lighter fern shapes in the background, which I think painted overtop for a second layer. I feel like this challenge is helping me learn so much about watercolours!
