Lesson 16 (Week 15): New England Is Home to Some of the most prestigious colleges
Many people know that New England is home to the one and only Harvard University. Harvard is located in Boston, Massachusetts, also known as the heart of New England, and is one of the eight Ivy League universities. The Ivy league is known to be the most prestigious group of colleges in the country, however, society seems to have built this notion that Harvard is the most elite of the elite. Harvard has taken on this portrayal in the media and in the language of society. Now to the more important aspect of it all, Harvard and many other prestigious colleges, are found in the upper east corner of our country, New England. Overall, the most renowned and impressive colleges that are sought after by so many around the world, happen to be in my niche. Another reason I am a proud to be from New England.
As a senior who is reaching the end of her long and strenuous college search, I have truly learned that New England has many of the most prestigious colleges. More than any other region of the country. Not that I am looking to attend any ivy leagues, but still. Just because I am familiar with the location of these colleges as a New Englander, does not mean I am exaggerating. Statistically, New England is known for some of the best and most successful colleges. All things considered, nothing in this post is to take away from all the amazing colleges that lie outside of New England and to say that New England is the only place to get a good education. However, college education is something we pride ourselves of.
Not only are our colleges very well known, preparatory and boarding schools are something to brag about in New England. Prep school is much more common in New England than any other region. The preparatory boarding school system is comprised of utilizing innovative approach and diversifying communities to build a strong academic pursuit. Business Insider recently posted an article that ranked the best 50 boarding schools as a result of calculating their endowment, SAT score average, and acceptance rate. The school that came out on top was Phillips Exeter Academy of Exeter, New Hampshire. New England had eight in the top ten of these schools.
So, not only do students get to study at a high academic level, they also have the benefit of living on a beautiful, four-season, New England campus. Students get to experience the great enviroment that northern states have to offer. This is such such a remarkable benefit, as there is so much to take advantage of for young adults in college or highschool.
Being apart of the New England academic experience for any period of time is such an amazing experience. As a student who has attended prep school for four years (see lesson 5 for a rant about how much I love my school) I can speak on the behalf that prep school changes lives. I can not imagine what is to come as I begin the next four years of my academic career. As I strive to attend school in New England, I can only hope that it could live up to my expectations.
