The space I miss the most when I’m gone, is my kitchen. It’s a shared space with my work, and so it serves as the place I can attempt to think through how to solve all the worlds problems, while also taking my mind off the stuff that’s outside my front door. There’s something about reviving a place after being gone for so long, by just turning on the comal and adding some love into the food that you make. Tonight, I channeled La Nena’s tortillas, and I ain’t gonna lie—while they came out in all kinds of different shapes, they do almost taste like hers. This morning, I had the great honor of presenting and honoring Gonzalo Chavez, owner of Las Cruces’ very own @taqueriachavezllc, and the New Mexico Small Business Development Board—who supported his vision and helped him make it come to fruition. From small food truck to a brand new building, the growth is significant, but the food and spirit of his resilient story remain the same. There are millions of stories like Sr. Chavez’ across this state and this country, and I’m super grateful to have had the opportunity to share his on the New Mexico House Floor.
