One can only hope for cancer, then you can get opioids.
Hurray, I finally got my morphine pump and am out of the hospital. I went into my doctor’s office for my check up and was very excited about my new pump because it comes with the option for me to give myself boluses of morphine for break through pain, only to be discouraged once again. Even with my pump set at an extremely low titration, my P.A. told me that if I use the bolus system she has to cut off my Norco. She explained to me that according to the new opioid laws that all of my narcotics are still too high. She greatly sympathized with me, but she told me that for every prescription she writes she has to submit a patient history explaining all the treatments I have undergone and next steps to get my narcotic consumption down to my pharmacy. Since when did pharmacists become prescribing and treating physicians? Things are only going to get worse if the war on opioid addiction continues and lining the streets are going to be the bodies of the pain patients left behind as casualties of war. She did explain that if I had cancer or aids that the guidelines are not as strict, well now isn’t that interesting. One can get the treatment they need if they are dying so I guess I can always hope for cancer.
