Progress!

Isn't this exciting!? Are you excited because I'mexcitedI'veneverbeensoexcited! Okay, in all seriousness, progress is being made, and to reward those who have stuck with us despite a rocky start, we have three new shorts, the three that premiered at Bronycon, for you guys, to help tide you over while we continue episode 1. Progress is being made at a much steadier rate, and we should be done relatively soon.

The Deadline for Artist Auditions has Passed

Everyone who applied, we will look over your applications and notify you in the next few days with our decision. Those of you who were interested but didn't get a chance to apply, don't worry, my art team and I are discussing keeping art applications an on-going thing we will have open, but we need to discuss that further before we make a decision on that. Who's to say Luna didn't create a Shadowbolt team?

Actually, I really like the concept of the Shadowbolts and I was kinda mad they never did much with that. In fact, in that backstory I reasoned out for Lightning Dust, I thought of having her dress up as a Shadowbolt just for the whole “opposite” motif.The reason anyone aside from the mane cast would be aware of the Shadowbolts is because in Newsponies-era, a lot of the major events of the series are well-known history (although, as is the case with a lot of history, common knowledge of some events tends to be dramatized or exaggerated). The Shadowbolts seems like a concept that Lightning Dust would blatantly steal.

(Also, just for kicks, when I thought of this I actually hunted around to see if anyone did art of Lightning Dust as a Shadowbolt just to see if anyone else thought of it. And people have! Here’s an awesome one: http://theluckypegasus511.deviantart.com/art/Lightning-Dust-Shadowbolt-369292673 )

Unfortunately, Luna doesn’t actually create a real Shadowbolt team. By this era, she’s involved enough in matters of the state that she doesn’t have to create a secondary team of Wonderbolts. There is actually a pretty significant degree of material involving Luna in the main plot since she is a minor character, so I won’t go into too much detail about what she’s up to here. What she’s up to comes up a lot in the series, especially whenever Pipsqueak shows up.

I have a problem with over-worldbuilding

I kind of realized this while, over the course of thinking up future material for Newsponies, I had reasoned out how the prison system in Equestria works.

One of the interesting things about writing Newsponies is that it takes place 15 years after the events of the show. As such, I've also spent a lot of time thinking about what characters from the show are doing in the future ... regardless of whether they will ever appear or not.

Like there's a pretty elaborate backstory I thought up that establishes Lightning Dust as being super-nuts in the future and basically becoming Rainbow Dash's Lex Luther, despite the fact Rainbow Dash is actually mature by this point and doesn't WANT Lightning Dust to be a bad guy.

All of this is stuff that has no bearing whatsoever on the main plot of the series and probably will not ever come up.

I don't really have a series bible for Newsponies, but there is pretty much a metric ton of notes that exist for Dinn and I. We have more material than we could ever want or ever possibly use for this, by this point.

So yeah, some insight into the writing process for Newsponies for you guys. :)
