Things we learnt from the Kappa - carry a cucumber with you at all times!
The wizarding world VS Muggle's technology
Of all the magical invention in the Harry Potter world Newt's suitcase is my favorite.
I love all the magic objets and I love the way wizards manage to sneak everywhere without muggles nothing it. But I love this one in particulare because it made me wonder about how these objects were made.
I REALLY want to see wizards - who apparently live out of the most recent muggle technology, using candles and so on - discovering new muggle inventions and having to figure out a way to keep themselves out of reach from them. Especially in the last centuries with really fast technical progress.
Imagine
- My suitcase full of potion bottles and magical elements is going through the first x-ray machine and now I have to erase the memory of the entire train station staff. (There had to be a time before the muggle x-ray mode was invented!)
- In the early 20th century, a wizard being spotted by a muggle with his wand thinking "who cares! Nobody will believe them anyway!" until the muggle reachs for a camera.
- Same thing later with video, like "Of course you can't see on a photograph that this chair is moving on its own... Unless it isn't just a photograph??..."
- Witches and Wizards freaking out the first time they see a plane flying VS Muggle pilot freaking out because ARE THERE REALLY PEOPLE FLIYING ON BROOM STICKS RIGHT NEXT TO MY PLANE?!?!
- Sonars and radars before people knew what it was being like "We only see a little empty house on a field but the radar says it's a 5 hundreds square-meter castle and human shaped echos keep popping out of nowhere around it, what do we do???" (I believe the first dissimulation spells where made to trick the human mind, not a brainless machine, so...)
Newt Scamander - case and creatures
Has anyone seen this? It’s a Google project for Fantastic Beasts, here is a link to the VR experience. It comes with commentary from Newt himself. It’s beautiful.
This week’s Beast of the Week is the Billwig!
Native to Australia, their sting causes levitation, and there might still be one on the loose in New York!
We did a deep dive into the Billywig in Episode 21′s Newt Case!

On the 21st day of Christmas, the Newt Case brought to me.... A Re-em! We don't think Newt would approve of drinking it's blood though. 😬
Throwback to the #NewtCase from Episode 27... the Kelpie! Seems fitting as we'll be seeing at least one of them in "Crimes of Grindelwald"! 😮 Pssst... did you know that the world's largest Kelpie is none other than the Loch Ness Monster? 😉
