I haven't been as productive lately as I wanted to be seeing as work has been emotionally and physically draining but I am working slowly on some prompt fills. And this kind of just hit me in the middle of the night a couple days ago.

"Are you sure?" Cullen asked, gripping the hilt of his blade tighter.

Newti nodded slowly--Solas may have taken the anchor but the damage was done and still spreading up her arm. She bit down on the rounded wood bar about as long as her hand that Josephine handed her, Leliana and Cassandra holding her shoulders and bracing her as she sank to the floor arm laid out across the table, a flame primed in her right hand. They didn't have the luxury of time; the Exalted Council wouldn't wait much longer and the green tendrils of magic were inching ever higher. Her pale pink and green eyes as they met Cullen's amber ones were resolved as she nodded at him once more. This was the only solution; lose the arm, or lose her life and she had already vowed to confront Solas once more and try to save him from himself. What they'd had was real; he'd said so himself...she just hoped it was enough. Cullen's blade came down embedding itself in the wood with a dull thunk as a strangled scream left her mouth, tears running down her cheeks and used the conjured flame to cauterize the wound.

She stood shakily, spitting out the gag and gritting her teeth against the pain. "Someone help me get my shirt back on. Let's finish this council once and for all, so we can do what we need to."

Then she'd assess the damage and deal with healing herself.

I was tagged by my precious @slothssassin @starsandskies (x3) @liaorban-art @cartadwarfwithaheartofgold (x4). HOW AM I SO FAR BEHIND AGAIN? IT MAKES NO SENSE! But how about a little Solavellan to make up for it?

The truth hit her like a ton of bricks--Solas was Fen’harel.

“Why don’t you face me head on? Stop hiding in the guise of a wolf--I know who you are now, Solas.”

The wolf stared at her, a low growl emanating from it's chest, six red eyes sizing her up before it shifted; damn her heart for wanting to throw herself into his arms, but at least her brain was in control and she stayed rooted to the spot. He’d always known she was clever. Approaching her cautiously, he stopped just shy of her reach, knowing if he took her in his arms he’d never let go. But this was the fade...surely he’d be allowed to hold her in their dreams and not lose himself. Blue eyes glanced downward and he folded his hands in front of him as she glowered at him. If he wanted her, he’d have to be the one to make the first move; Newti hadn’t wanted to let him go in the first place. She should have listened all the times he tried to warn her and leave before she’d let herself get attached. Looking back, she should’ve let him go before their second kiss, the one on her balcony, before he’d called her Vhenan, and before he’d taken her into her room and bedded her. Claimed her. Stolen her heart.

“I never meant to hurt you, Vhenan.”

That word had her resolve melting.

“You did a bang up job on that front, Solas; you did hurt me, I don’t care that you didn't mean to. You can’t just call me ‘Vhenan’ and expect everything to just go away.” She crossed her arms over her chest, sparks flying from her pale pink and green eyes.

Had that little flutter of her pulse always been there begging for the stroke of his tongue? He needed to focus. Solas sighed and ran his hand across his head; he knew she wouldn't believe that he was protecting her from what he had to do, protecting her from who he was about to become. He had hoped that since things were easier for him in the fade, this meeting would be going better, but Newti wasn't having any of it...not now that she knew who he was. In all his years of walking the fade, he used to never be thrown by what happened in dreams. Then he’d met her and she’d turned his world upside down, making him regret his vow to destroy hers.

“I know, and as much as I may wish it, we will never have what we had again, and I’m sorry. Ar lath ma, Vhenan.”

As he turned to leave she caught his arm, reminiscent of so long ago on her balcony.

“Wait, don’t go.”

Her touch sent a shiver through him, all the memories of their time together, flooding back--though they’d never been far from the surface. His lips found hers in a passionate kiss, their bodies curling together. She melted against him, angling her head to deepen the kiss, his mouth opening against hers, tongues intertwining. Her pelvis arched towards his, a moan escaping Solas’ lips and he held her, a gentle hand cupping her chin. Neither of them could just turn their feelings off, though that would make everything so much easier. Her touch stirred something in him, and he knew he’d never stop loving this woman...and that scared him more than any Evanuris. Just like everything about their relationship, the kiss was impulsive and ill-considered but he was still a man...a man faced with the woman he loved; it was astonishing he hadn't given in sooner. Besides, it didn't count if it was only fade-tongue, right?

She hadn't wanted to cave so fast, and she knew that he’d issued no command; they both wanted this…

“Vhenan, before I lose myself, wake up.” He whispered.

WIP Wednesday

I was tagged by @pikapeppa @schoute and @starsandskies to share a snippet from a current WIP so how about a little Solavellan? Newti’s scream echoed around Skyhold. Her advisors found her in the garden on her knees, with tears in her eyes as she clutched her stomach. The only conclusion she could draw was that something had happened to Mythal, the bond between them strange and unheard of. Cullen held out a hand to help her up, Newti clutching desperately at it, struggling to get her breath back as she staggered to her feet. This was not what she’d expected when she’d chosen to drink from the Well of Sorrows, that was for sure; her servitude to Mythal had been a calculated risk, one burden she wouldn't let anyone else shoulder--especially Morrigan. The woman had a son who needed her, and Newti had nothing to lose...not since Solas had removed the Vallaslin and left her. Then they’d found out it was Flemeth, and Morrigan who besides Solas had put up the biggest fight that she be the one to drink from the well, had been relieved when everything was said and done.

Just as suddenly as it came, the pain was gone, the bond feeling different now...more powerful than before and vaguely familiar. She worried what that meant since she hadn’t been able to stop Flemeth from using her to stop Morrigan from trying to kill her when they’d chased Kieran through the eluvian. Thank the gods Morrigan had been stopped--the pain moments before had been almost unbearable. Thanking Cullen for his help, and Cassandra, Leliana and Josephine for running to her aid when they did; she hadn’t meant to worry anyone, the scream unwillingly ripped from her throat. She glanced around, quickly, feeling her Vhenan’s presence clearly, as if he stood beside her. But that was impossible; he was gone.

Solas had needed the Old God Soul Mythal had been carrying; her soul in combination with Urthemiel’s had been just what he needed to bring himself back up to full power after sleeping for so long. Ironic, that he’d put up the veil to seal the old Elves away because they had killed Mythal, and that was exactly what he’d just done. He hoped it had been a necessary evil. He’d taken no joy in her death, but allowed himself a moment to mourn the loss of his oldest and most treasured friend and lover. Suddenly, he felt a familiar tug of longing for the one woman who could destroy everything he was trying to accomplish...and if he wasn't careful he’d let her. It was almost like she was beside him, and he let himself wallow in the feeling, remembering the feel of her skin as he made love to her, her silky flame red hair between his fingers, and her lips against his, breath fanning his face. She was the one good thing about the world in front of him.

Newti Lavellan--the one person in Thedas who could make him rethink his whole plan--was now bonded to him instead of Mythal.

That wasn’t what he’d wanted...he’d been unaware of the magnitude of the contract she’d made by drinking from the Well of Sorrows. And now faced with a deep connection, a type of bond he’d never encountered before, he felt himself being drawn back to her. He’d admit, while part of him needed the souls, he knew another part of him had thought he was helping save her by killing Flemeth so that she wasn't bound in servitude to an Evanuris, but he hadn't realized the gravitas of his actions; guilt claiming him. He now had the power to make his Vhenan do anything he wished--a power he neither coveted or needed. She was headstrong, selfless and independent, and he loved those qualities about her...he didn't want to take that away.

For the first time, he wondered if he shouldn't leave Evanuris sealed behind the veil, and that was her influence.
