There’s a thing that happens: You feel that the reception is superfluous, that you don’t need it to be an artist. Then you meet the other artists, many for the first time. And guests start to arrive and the conversation starts to buzz from mouth to ear and back. And in the talking you realize why you made the art and how it’s all about letting go of something you’ve carried around for decades. And then your friend comes in, back from California, and another, out of isolation, and the coworker you miss, and the men who talk about painting and all the new people you talk to. That’s when you realize you did need the reception, and the people there, more than anything, as if it were air. And you wonder how you even survived without it. Thank you, all. @sophiachizuco @sophia_and_artist_friends @sfaprojects @flatfilegallery @kaysirikul @kamonchanok.bung @cheminhsiaoart @lulumeng.s @robertojamora The exhibition “Sentiment” continues through August 8.
