The large huts (big brown circles) are used for families, ranging from either a newly mated couple to a couple and their children. The Neytek typically have two or three children. The small huts (smaller brown circles) are generally reserved for single Mecha and warriors whose mates have passed on.
Every large hut has their own cooking fire that continually burns. For the single huts, fires can be made within the hut (since there is a hole in the roof for smoke to escape from) or those Mecha can use the large fire behind the Chief’s hut. The fire behind the Chief’s hut is free for everyone to use, and it is also a meeting place for the whole village to gather around when the Chief needs to make an announcement.
The green spaces are gardens. The largest households (the ones surrounded by brown ovals) have their own gardens. The large garden space on the west side of the village is for the whole village to use. The brown ovals are walls, made from mud, straw, and some pieces of stone. The huts are constructed in a similar way. Their circular structure helps keep the roof upright (similar to the physics needed for igloos). The roofs are typically long grasses and fronds from trees.
The brown rectangles are market stalls. Every new moon, the Neytek gather for a type of market where they share the goods made in the community. Pottery, food (such as vegetables, meet (smoked and some fresh) and some baked goods), leather harnesses and bags, jewelry, and weapons (bows/arrows, spears) are often traded at the market. The Neytek do not use much in the way of currency, so when other tribes come by for trading they just trade goods.
The Neytek are a very tight knit community. There are about fifty members to the tribe, give or take a few. A large earthquake has recently hit the village and killed the chief’s mate and son. The chief’s daughter survives to one day take her place as leader of the village.
