I’ll never understand why so many people are unwilling to believe that gay people are in fact completely gay!!!! I mean, obviously the answer here is that they’re homophobic, but it’s still maddening sometimes.
Countless times I’ve experienced non-gay people trying to tell me, an actual homosexual person, what homosexuality is. This happens in so many different ways, but today it came in the form of a straight person lecturing me that no one is “100% gay.” I then defined what homosexuality is -- exclusive attraction to the same sex -- and was dogpiled by, yet again, non-gay people desperately wanting to push the idea that gay people are not “100% gay.” They told me that I was “factually incorrect.”
I’m so tired of this idea that absolutely everything is a spectrum and that gay/lesbian people can have “exceptions” and that homosexuality is “old-fashioned” or not “progressive” and that gay/lesbian people can’t have boundaries. It’s super frustrating and nonsensical. If gay people don’t have to be “100% gay,” then why have any words at all? What then can “100% gay” people call themselves to differentiate themselves from the “gay” people who aren’t “100% gay”? These words have simple definitions, and we have these words for a reason. You either are gay or you aren’t -- there is no spectrum. If you have “exceptions,” then you’re not gay. There is nothing wrong with being attracted only to your same sex.
