Trump’s Department of Education wants NCAA to strip awards, records from trans student-athletes

The NCAA earlier bowed to Trump’s request to ban trans student-athletes from competing in sports aligned with their gender identity.

The Department of Education is urging the NCAA to strip awards and records from transgender athletes. The NCAA last month banned transgender student-athletes from participating in sports aligned with their gender identity. “Because of President Trump’s bold leadership, men will no longer be allowed to compete in women’s sports regardless of how they identify, and the NCAA has correctly changed its tune on its discriminatory practices against female athletes,” Candice Jackson, deputy general counsel for the DOE, said in a statement. “The next necessary step is to restore athletic records to women who have for years been devalued, ignored, and forced to watch men steal their accolades.” President Donald Trump has targeted transgender rights in a series of executive orders in the first days of his second administration. One of the orders signed on January 20, his first day in office, entitled “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government,” defined sex as male or female based on the “immutable biological reality of sex.” On January 29, he signed an order entitled “Ending Radical Indoctrination in K-12 Schooling” which barred schools that receive federal funding allowing trans students from participating in sports, using bathrooms and changing facilities, and choosing pronouns that align with their gender identity. [...] The new request would affect the awards and records of University of Pennsylvania trans woman swimmer Lia Thomas, who made history in 2022 as the first transgender NCAA Division I champion when she won the 500-yard freestyle event. The NCAA did not indicate whether it will honor the new request. Meanwhile, Jackson made clear her department will continue to target the transgender community. “The Trump Education Department will do everything in our power to right this wrong and champion the hard-earned accomplishments of past, current, and future female collegiate athletes,” Jackson said.

This is an egregious act of anti-trans history revisionism, all done to appease anti-trans extremists such as Riley Gaines.

“According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) 5th round (2019), most children in Karnataka do not reach their ideal height and weight. Stunting (less height for age) of 35.4% and being underweight (less weight for age) of 32.9% are common in children even before they start their school life, and this is much more so in children from vulnerable communities,” stated the letter. It further said, “The aim of the Akshara Dasoha (mid-day meal scheme, MDM) in Karnataka was both educational and nutritional – to increase school enrolment and attendance, decrease dropout rates, promote good health through nutritional foods and increasing learning ability of children.” It added, “Karnataka has been the ONLY South Indian state that has not provided eggs as part of MDM, in spite of the fact that 94% students in the government and aided schools belong to communities that eat eggs.” It cited the National Family Health Survey-4 (2015-16) which concluded that at least 83% of the state’s population does not have any cultural or religious objections to consuming eggs. Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh provide eggs five times a week.

First Encounter

Hazel had gotten herself aimlessly lost in the maze like hallways, the transitioning crowd of students beginning to thin.

The freshman had lost her way...

'Oh come on, can't anything go right for me?! Gods, why do you hate me so much?'

She meandered a few paces before attempting to retrace her steps back, the numbers on the doors not matching the specific classroom she had to go in. Hazel chewed the inside of her mouth as she kept glancing at the room numbers, hoping to find anything for room 3-134.

This is when she spots a few lingering students who appeared to be upperclassmen. Her gut became unsettled by the mere thought of asking for directions, but she couldn't risk getting more lost; Hazel mustered up the brainpower to approach the upperclassmen.

"Um… Excuse me," Hazel interjects timidly. The few standing gave her quick glances, except one who suddenly loomed over Hazel with his presence, despite being a couple inches taller than her. Hiding her discomfort, Hazel swallows dryly.

"Do you know… where room 3-134 is?" Hazel peers up to the tall student, who appeared to be an upperclassman.

"3-134?" Echoed the tall guy, "you're completely lost, aren't you?" His grunt morphs into a subtle chuckle, some of his friend quietly join as well. Hazel's cheeks simmered.

"It's not even in this section." He gestures over his shoulder, "Take a left and exit, then look for building three, the tallest building."

Hazel nods, the upperclassmen behind him grumble, "Hurry your ass up, Henry, stop chatting with the freshman." The kid named Henry scoffs, before turning back to his group and walking off...

Hazel thought to herself,

'He's... scary.'

As a high school basketball team kneeled for anthem, announcers used racial slurs to describe them [TW: Racism]

An entire girls basketball team decided to kneel during the national anthem of the Oklahoma 6A state basketball tournament Thursday night. Playing against Midwest City High School, every member of the Norman High School girls team knelt but instead of being applauded for their stance against racism and police brutality, announcers on the National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS) Network's official live stream attempted to degrade the players by using disgusting racial slurs.

Clearly forgetting to turn off their mic during the anthem, the game announcers were heard making racist and derogatory comments toward the players. “They're kneeling? I hope Norman gets their ass kicked," one announcer could be heard saying. Another said, "F**k Norman. I hope they lose. C’mon, Midwest City. They're gonna kneel like that? Hell no." Later in the clip, an announcer could be heard muttering, “F*cking [N-words].”

Video clips of the incident posted by the program's junior varsity coach Frankie Parks have since gone viral. Alongside sharing the clip, social media users noted that racism like this is the reason why people kneel for the anthem. “See why we do it!?! They still think it’s about the flag,” NFL player Gerland McCoy, who also kneels for the anthem, said on Twitter.

In a statement released Friday, announcer Matt Rowan admitted it was his voice using hate speech to describe children. He then blamed his racist ramblings on his blood sugar.

t was not until a subsequent interview with TMZ Sports that Rowan bothered to apologize to the student athletes whom he’d insulted. He also claimed he wasn’t trying to hide behind his diabetes.

The network issued a statement Friday noting that it is “aggressively investigating” the incident and “condemns racism, hate, and discrimination.” The NFHS streams high school games not only in Oklahoma but around the country, so such behavior is unacceptable and a statement issuing an apology is not enough.

After issuing a statement Friday in support of its students and their resilience, Norman Public Schools superintendent Nick Migliorino confirmed that Norman Public Schools would no longer allow NFHS to broadcast its games.

Dear Matt Rowan, blaming your racist outburst about Norman High School basketball players kneeling during the national anthem Thursday night on diabetes is cowardice.

Individuals selected to receive the Coach of the Year honor are chosen based upon their performance as a coach on and off the field and the positive work they have done with the athletes in their program. The honorees will be recognized during the RIIL Winter Championships at an event to be determined.

2023-24 NFHS RIIL Officials and Coaches of the Year honored at the Ryan Center

Each year, the National Federation of State High School Associations recognizes coaches and officials around the country for their outstanding service and unselfish devotion to interscholastic athletics.

Individuals selected to receive the Coach of the Year honor are chosen based upon their performance as a coach on and off the field and the positive work they have done with the athletes in their program.

Nominees for the Official of the Year award must exemplify the highest standards of ethical conduct, moral character and carry the endorsement of their respective state high school association.  They also shall have made a recent significant contribution to high school officiating in their state. 

The RIIL recognized the 2023-24 Rhode Island Officials and Coaches of the Year during halftime of yesterday's RIIL Girls Basketball State Championship game at the Ryan Center.

Rhode Island Cheerleading Coach of the Year, Taylor Levin of Pilgrim High School, received her award during the RIIL Competition Cheerleading Championships, held earlier in the day at the Ryan Center.
