Men are not women. Men can never be women. Their feelings on the subject are can't change biology.
As SCOTUS reviews state laws barring transgender women and girls from girls sports teams, one investigative journalist dug in on former University of Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines. She spoke about her work with LPM’s Bill Burton
Audio included. Noted that despite her "men out of women's sports" stance, most of Gaines' coaches were cis men. And in fact one of the AFAB coaches later came out as a trans man.
In a rare interview, Lia Thomas described what life was like as arguably the most prominent transgender swimmer in the world.

I don’t know about you guys but I think Lia Thomas should come to Canada so I can give her the biggest comforting squishy hug ever and so we can all hug her and tell her she’s beautiful and that it’s gonna be okay. And that she’s beautiful and loved and supported here.
Gaines notably tied with Lia Thomas, a trans swimmer, for fifth place at the NCAA championships three years ago.

Anti-transgender activist Riley Gaines wants to use trans athletes to make the trans rights movement “crumble,” according to a New York Times profile published this week. Gaines’ rise to prominence on the right over the past several years has been fueled mainly by her relentless targeting of trans athletes, in particular former swimmer Lia Thomas, with whom Gaines tied for fifth place during the 2022 NCAA championships. That tie, coupled with the ensuing photo op in which Gaines was given a sixth place trophy to hold, sent Gaines down the path of anti-trans politics; as her mother told the Times, Gaines “hated losing more than she loved to win” even at an early age.
In the three years since that race, Gaines has become a sports pundit and MAGA movement darling, attending President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress earlier this year and establishing herself as the face of conservative attacks on the NCAA as part of a lawsuit to sue the association for not providing “equal treatment for women.” In July, the University of Pennsylvania — Thomas’ alma mater — agreed to strip Thomas of all recognition and awards during her time in women’s competition, bowing to direct pressure from the Trump administration. For Gaines, who testified in favor of Montana’s anti-trans “bathroom bill” in January, opposing trans women in women’s sports is a vehicle to dismantle trans activism, restrict gender-affirming medical care, and encourage cisgender people to stop accepting trans people. “The gender ideology movement is a house of cards,” Gaines told the Times this week, using a euphemism frequently deployed by the Trump administration. Gaines added that she believes sports participation “will be the card that makes all of it crumble,” opening the door to convince the general public that trans women are not truly women and gender-affirming medical care for trans youth should be restricted.
The New York Times recently had a profile on right-wing anti-trans extremist Riley “5th Place Crybaby” Gaines, in which Gaines admitted that she is using the trans sports issue as a stepping stone to erode all trans rights and existence.
