Myles Garrett is hoping to break 20 sacks in 2016; Wants to be the first pick

Texas A&M pass rusher Myles Garrett was named the most freakish player in 2016 by NFL.com

Myles Garrett is one of the best pass rushers in the 2017 NFL Draft, and the Aggies pass rusher is ready to prove it to the world this year. Garrett had high expecatations last season but came pretty close to hitting his goal.

Last season he wanted to hit 15 sacks and 20 TFL, he finished with 11.5 sacks and 20 TFL.  This year he is hoping to hit 20 sacks and it is very possible.

“I have to live up to my expectations, which is to break all the records that I can, dominate by a wide margin,” Garrett said. “Let it be unanimous. Don’t let anyone be close to how good you are, no matter what the division is — one, two or three.” Garrett also indicated during SEC Media Days that he wanted to be the first overall selection of (presumably) the 2017 draft, saying, “Who doesn’t?”

Garrett has set some pretty high goals considering the NCAA record for sacks is 24 (Terrell Suggs).

NFLPA has hired a company to protect players accounts from social media hacks

The NFLPA is trying to protect players like Laremy Tunsil

Laremy Tunsil remembers the night of the NFL Draft and will likely remember it forever after this video hit social media, 14 minutes before the NFL Draft.

As a means to protect NFL players from social media blunders, the NFLPA has contracted a cyber-defense services firm, K2 Intelligence, according to Matt Schneidman of the New York Post.

“We are enthusiastic to make this state-of-the-art cybersecurity solution package available to NFLPA members and their families to stay secure and to help with problems as they occur,” NFLPA Security & Operations Director Tim Christine said in a release, via The Post.

Today Ed Bouchette of the Post Gazette answered questions about everything Pittsburgh and there was a question regarding Brandon Boykin that was interesting.

Ed states that Brandon Boykin may have a career ending hip injury. Here is the transcript.

Dave: Ed, saw over weekend that coach Lake attended a fantasy camp and admitted Steelers would have taken Jackson over Burns. Why would he admit this now? Also he said that Boykin had a hip problem which is why he keeps getting released. Any truth to all this?

Ed Bouchette: Yes, to both. I and Gerry Dulac have been writing and saying since the day of the draft that the Steelers were prepared to draft Jackson right until the Bengals drafted him in the spot before them.

I also heard recently the same thing about Boykin, that he had hip problems that might end his career.

NFL should re-create NFL Europe instead of having a team in London

The NFL needs to expand into the UK

NFL Owners would like to make a developmental league in the NFL, and several owners and even Troy Vincent touched on the subject, but why don’t the NFL just recreated NFL Europe?

The NFL wants to bring a team to London, but they have tons of problems with the schedule and what not, so they should just let the players sitting at home get another opportunity.  The Owners are even on board for a developmental league.

“It’s been a long time since we looked at (a developmental league), almost back to (the demise of) NFL Europe, and when we looked at the value of NFL Europe,” Atlanta Falcons president and CEO Rich McKay said, via CBS Sports. “What we saw in NFL Europe was it definitely had an impact in (developing) some linemen and it definitely had an impact on (developing) officials.”

Dallas Cowboys CEO Stephen Jones also talked about it.

“It is a concept that could check all of those boxes we often talk about — diversity, officiating, developing coaches, player development, experimenting with rules and technology,” Jones said. “It’s something we have to start to seriously look at within the competition committee and then discuss with the NFLPA. We’ve reached a point where we really should be looking more at a developmental league, and I really expect that to begin here in the next year or so.”

Troy Vincent also had these comments

“In short, we believe further development of the vast pool of football talent is imperative to the future, and we are considering ways to do that economically and effectively, not only for players, but also coaches, trainers, officials and every aspect of the football universe, Vincent said. “Their input is important in this development phase.”

NFL is investigating to find the person that hacked their account

The NFL had its official Twitter account hacked on Tuesday, and the result was a Roger Goodell death hoax.

Now the NFL is investigation the cause.

NFL has engaged law enforcement to see how its Twitter account got hacked. NFL also reviewing, strengthening its cyber-security measures.

Jacksonville State lands former Auburn 5 star recruit Roc Thomas

Jacksonville State lands 5 star running back Roc Thomas

Roc Thomas left Auburn to play for Jacksonville State, and that is a major move for the JSU offense who lost their star back Troymaine Pope.

Thomas asked for and was granted his release from Auburn. Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said the running back left the Tigers to play for the Gamecocks.

“I think he wants to get closer to home,” Malzahn said at the SEC Spring Meetings in Destin, Florida on Wednesday. “I think he has a chance to play for his former high school coach (John Grass). We wish Roc nothing but the best.”
