Family History is Neat
Doing family history research today, looking on Ancestry.ca and looking at a file I was sent by an aunt maybe eleven years ago.
Turns out I am a fifth-generation Newfoundlander, I can trace one of my great-grandfathers back to being born in Placentia, Nfld, in 1820. His father, John O'Rielley (in Irish Gaelic he would have been Eoín or Seán Ó Raghallaigh), was born in 1781, in Co. Waterford, Ireland.
So I guess it is conceivable that the family lore that one of the grandfathers was a revolutionary sent to Newfoundland, since there was a rebellion in 1798.
Only six generations between me and Ireland.
And because my parents are totally awesome we're going to Ireland for ten days in September, my parents and my older brother.
