Although in Brazil we didn't usually have a dedicated art classes in middle and high school, occasionally we got some art assignments. My favorite assignment, by far, was one which a teacher who taught geography and history gave us. She raffled several famous artistic expressions, where the student should lecture about the historical-geographical period where that expression appeared, each student got 2 artistic expressions assigned and had to choose a third one and create a visual art combining all three themes using the media that we felt more comfortable with. I was assigned impressionism and minimalism. My first drawing was a simple graphite over paper with details a la Monet made with charcoal of a tree's silhouette, I named it "The cow drinking water on a summer morning". The teacher got confused and said I got the wrong drawing, After quickly checking the drawing I said it was correct, and the cow was near the water. Even more confused the teacher asked to see the drawing closely, and after a long inspection she notice a single blue dot made with a ball pen. The teacher now angrily said she could see the water, but not the cow, and then without even stuttering I said the cow got scared and was now hiding behind the tree. She only accepted my drawing after she realized that I choose surrealism as my third theme.
