NGC 1261, C87 // Jim Fordice
This globular cluster, NGC 1261, lies about 53,500 light years from Earth in the constellation of Horologium, the Pendulum Clock. Discovered by James Dunlop (1793-1848) in 1826, this globular cluster is one of many that have been found to have different aged stellar populations, contrary to what was originally thought.
NGC 1261 is best seen in the late spring in the southern hemisphere.
