Fun fact about the Magic Systems on Ngiachpaun.
Many worlds divide magic into two categories, divine and arcane. On Ngiachpaun, there are 3 categories of magic.
Old Celestial Magic (Ngânitshāz, in Ixaili)
This magic was the only system of magic on Ngiachpaun prior to the Empyreal War. This magic relied on the Old Gods (Qohuishán) and certain gods were known for certain types of magic. Iututɤ, goddess of the sea, for example, would often be channeled for magic relating to water.
When the Celestial Plane shattered and the Old Gods lost their connection to the material plane, users of this magic lost their abilities. After the Silent Century, this type of magic was slowly forgotten. However, the Ixaili are still practicers of this type of magic, because Nguozo is believed to have a connection to the material plane still, and the Ixaili are descendants of Nguozo.
Arcane Magic (Flóbéíb, in Muib)
Sometimes referred to as Flóbéíb yákqóí, Fey Magic, or Isneaqian Magic, this type of magic was created shortly before the Shattering by the Isneaq (A council of Archfey that dissolved during the Silent Century). It does not rely on any god, new or old, and instead relied on the casters own knowledge and abilities. Each member of the Isneaq founded their own school of magic.
Ápɤ, the Illusionist, is the founder of the Illusion school of magic. Xhorá, the Conjurist, is the founder of the Creation school of magic. Illphai, the Deceiver is the founder of the Shadow school of magic. Naleh, the Knowing, is the founder of the Knowledge school of magic. Viez, the Tainted, founded the Corruption school of magic.
For the most part, this magic is practiced by Fey, specifically the Isneaqian. However, because most of Ngiachpaun’s most prestigious universities are in the Illphai Territory, more and more non-fey have become practicers.
Outside of the Isneaqian and Ixaili, most of Ngiachpaun’s magic users are users of New Divine Magic. At the end of the Silent Century, a new Celestial Plane was formed- though it is not understood how. The new gods are the source of most modern magic users magic in Ngiachpaun. As a whole, there is little stigma towards practicers of this magic. In some cultures, like the Esjaras, magic is seen as something reserved for gods and frequent magic use seen akin to blasphemy.
Most people still separate casters into two categories- those that are believers of their god(s) and practice magic as part of their faith; and people who practice divine magic outside of faith.
