The Little Miss Gets Lost (Part 1 of 127)
I am no longer afraid of the highway.
It is now my mortal enemy.
Not only did I remember the wrong time for my appointment, which was 10 AM and not 11 AM, but I got lost on the way there and wound up 20 minutes late for an appointment that I'd already missed. What really pisses me off is that even if I HAD tried to arrive at the right time, I wouldn't have made it anyway because of the goddamn highway.
I was so terrified of missing my exit that I focused intensely on the highway directions and not the street road directions. Therefore, I missed an important turn getting off of the highway, and ended up driving in the wrong direction for 4 minutes. Fortunately for me, I have a brain, and realized that the address numbers were going down, not up (my eye doctor in on 14555 - I was passing numbers like 8709 and 7999). So I turned around and, despite numerous fake turn signs like "Aurora doctor here- sorry, we mean the next office over". "Aurora doctor here- sorry, we mean..." I finally made it to the right office, at which point the secretary told me my appointment was at 10.
FML.
At least she gave me directions home. We even rescheduled for another appointment in two weeks. I guess missing my eye exam wouldn't be too bad if I wasn't actively going blind. I swear, I can't see anything anymore. I can no longer read signs from a distance of thirty feet. That's a serious issue when you're trying to figure out what the hell street you're on and the whole world, WHICH SEEMS TO REVEL IN TINY FONT, prints the street name really tiny.
So I really would like to get my eyes checked one day.
All I can do is be thankful that this was clearly divine intervention. I was going to get lost no matter what, so it doesn't matter that I had the wrong time.
Huh.
So does anybody want to pay for all the gas I burned? It's $25 for half a tank...and despite my time-consuming, exhaustive job, I am not rolling in the money (my job does not pay me. They feel bad about it, though.).
